•WFPK has announced a new free series, Winter Wednesdays, to be held at the Clifton Cultural Center, beginning on November 28 with Corey Chisel and The Wandering Sons plus Von Grey. The remaining dates are December 19, January 30 and February 27.

•The Palace Theatre has kicked off a new series called Faces At The Palace, which will feature Louisville-area artists performing in the lobby of the Palace Theatre. Sydney O'Bryan , Director of Sales and Marketing for the Palace, put the series together, with the intention of both providing a space within the Palace for Louisville-area players but also to demonstrate that those performers are worthy of opening for national acts playing the venue. The next show on November 23, will feature the irrepressible Bodeco, with Junk Yard Dogs and The Ladybirds. We encourage everyone to attend these events, both to have a fun time in the Palace and to help out your favorite Louisville acts.

•Will Oldham and Drag City labelmate Jim O'Rourke have come together to help director Kyle Armstrong with a new short film, Magnetic Reconnection, which is about the aurora borealis. Featuring an original score by O'Rourke with Oldham narrating, the "aurora footage is probably the best footage ever captured," Armstrong tells Exclaim "as I travelled with an auroral imaging specialist with two decades of experience, and a custom built digital IMAX camera, purposely built for shooting the northern lights." The film will have its world premiere at AFI Fest next month.

• The Save Hogan's Fountain Pavilion group will stage the Finish-What-We-Started Benefit Show on November 3 at Diamond Pub Concert Hall. To raise money for the Hogan's Fountain Teepee repair, which has proven to be more costly than the $60k initially raised. Performing will be She Might Bite, Leigh Ann Yost, Thirteenth Sun, Lost Tribe, Secret Beats and TBA. There'll be a Silent Auction with items donated by local artists and businesses. Ernie Threlkeld, 1938-2012

The Louisville musical community lost a somewhat unsung hero with the passing of educator/saxophonist Ernest Threlkeld Jr. on October 7^th. An indelible inspiration to his students in both Shelbyville/Shelby County and Jefferson County, Ernie sparked many a music career as a teacher of all musical formats – marching band, orchestra, and jazz ensemble. His students regularly placed highly in various competitions and All-State groups; Louisville audiences might best remember him as the oboist in the Jewish Community Center Orchestra or as the baritone saxophonist in John Roy's Ovation Orchestra. Plans for a Kentucky celebration of his life are pending. – Leslie Stewart
