MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES

(Louisville Music News provides the following information as a service to its readers, and does not attempt to pass judgment on the advisability of participating in the opportunities presented. -- Editor.)

We have received a communication from Excalibur Music Group, 7516 Picardy Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808, stating that they are searching for original material. They request that material be submitted on a cassette (three songs maximum per submission) with accompanying lyric sheets. They promise to respond in four to six weeks to all submissions, provided that a self addressed, stamped envelope is enclosed. They further say that they use the standard songwriting contract, with an eighteen month reversal clause. Excalibur Music Group is affiliated with both ASCAP and BMI.

Scene Productions, P. O. Box 1243, Beckley, W. Va. 25802, has contacted us to say: "If any of the writers feel they can write a quality song for Nashville, (they should) feel free to send us a Professional Demo with lyrics. Also we can use a Country Music writer who can put music melodies to Professional lyrics for co-writing. Our Country Road Record Label also reviews Artist for Recording. We look for that unique quality, style and commercialism."

Affiliated Publisher, Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. will be presenting Songfest '89, "The Second Annual Songwriter's Pro-Am." Songfest '89 will be held July 16-18 at the Sea Palms Golf and Tennis Resort on St. Simon's Island, Georgia. Several professional songwriters, along with new API partner Larry Gatlin will be there. Additional details for the three-day event may be had by calling (615) 256-9850.

The Intermountain Songwriters Association has scheduled its annual Spring Seminar for May 26-27, 1989, at the Airport Quality Inn in Salt Lake City, Utah. Special guests include award-winning songwriter Max D. Barnes who wrote the Vern Gosdin hit song "Chiseled in Stone."

For details concerning the seminar, contact Jim Tanner, (801) 882-2648, or write to P.O. Box 71325, Salt Lake City, UT 84107.

Mr. Wonderful Productions, Inc., Louisville, Ky. is planning a series of monthly showcases to be called "The Rising Star Showcase."
