Kentucky Opera Association to close out season with "Carmen"

1989-90 Operas Announced

Now that the tax returns have been mailed off to the IRS, you'll be pleased to know that you still have time to catch at least one of KOA's operas before season's end. "Carmen," a passionate, exciting drama, features the most familiar and best-loved music of any opera. Performances are scheduled for May 19, 21, 23 and 25 at Kentucky Center for the Arts' Whitney Hall. For ticket information, or to make reservations, call (502) 584-7777.

KOA's schedule of performances for the upcoming season will include "The Soldier's Tale," as part of the Classics in Context '89; "La Traviata"; the World Premiere of "The Stone Man"; "The Magic Flute"; and "The Embarrassed Tutor."

In addition to all the foregoing main-stage activity, the Opera-Go-Round company will busy itself performing suitably scaled children's operas in schools throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The repertory for the 1989-90 scholastic year includes "The Toy Shop," a revival of "Little Red Riding Hood" and a new production at Christmas of "Hansel and Gretel." It is anticipated that the education department will play to approximately 200,000 children in 22 counties.

Full details of Kentucky Opera's season can be had by calling (502) 584-4500, and the same telephone number serves to contact David Berger to book a performance by one of the education groups.
