CONGRATULATIONS !
Louisville Music News salutes Bill Porter and offers belated congratulations on the occasion of his induction into the Audio Hall of Fame. Porter received his profession's highest honor on October 2, 1992.
From 1959 until 1964, Porter engineered more than 7,000 recording sessions, resulting in more than 322 chart records. A few of his best known projects include:
Floyd Cramer's "Last Date."
Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World."
Everly Brothers' "Cathy's Clown," "When Will I Be Loved," and "Till I Kissed You."
Al Hirt's "Java," top record of the year in 1964.
Roy Orbison's "Crying," "Only the Lonely," and the Grammy-nominated "Pretty Woman," top American record of the year in 1965.
Elvis Presley's "It's Now or Never," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?," "Return to Sender," and "Suspicious Minds."
Additionally, Porter engineered "Look Homeward Angel," a chart single for Louisville's Monarchs.
In 1969 Porter was hired by Presley to mix the sound for his live performances, beginning with Las Vegas and continuing until Presley's death in 1977.
Porter was hired as president of Allen-Martin Productions in Jeffersontown in 1989. Prior to that, he taught a college course in audio engineering in Denver, Colorado.
