Per an article in Business First, the Forecastle Fest has established a non-profit foundation to "promote local environmental education and international conservation." Forecastle founder JK McKnight will serve as chairman. He must not have enough to do.

My Morning Jacket has added three shows in Japan at the start of their spring tour, stopping at Osaka's Big Cat (3/26), Nagoya's Club Quattro (3/27) and Tokyo's AX (3/29) before heading to Australian for several shows, beginning with a show at Sydney's Enmore Theatre on April 3.

From an impromptu, casual chat with The Pass's drummer Neil Lucas, we learned that The Pass is off the road and recording the tracks for the next CD, following a fairly steady round of tours over the summer and fall, with another round – better paying, Lucas said – of tours in early spring. Lucas laughed when said that some of the new material required him to do some serious exercising before he could play what was required.

Additionally, the group will be shopping the project around once completed. Their relationship with sonaBLAST! remains solid, however.

Nicole Sherzinger, who has figured out how to become famous, is still trying to get her solo music career off the launch pad. Her "Don't Hold Your Breath" single was a No. 1 hit in the U.K. in March, but peaked at No. 86 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after the song being released in the U.S. in August. The release date on her solo album gets getting pushed back, as single after single is released, to no good effect. Nonetheless, she keeps on trying.

She also has landed the role of Mary Magdalenein the upcoming remake of "Jesus Christ Superstar." The movie is due to hit cinemas in 2014. She probably learned all those songs back at YPAS.

For those of you seriously in need of a major orchestral fix (due to the absence of the LO), take heart: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Pinchas Zukerman, will play Whitney Hall on January 12, 2012. It's not music, but as a regular viewer of The Mythbusters, it's news I'm interested in – Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will be at the Palace Theatre on March 18. What they'll do for a show is not precisely laid out but the title of the tour is Behind The Myths. Tickets run $29.50 to $150.00.

Lauderback, Donovan,36, died on November 20, 2011. He was a musician and played with Genius File, among other bands.

Miller, James King "Jim" , 87, died in Louisville On October 27, 2011. He directed the Louisville Thoroughbred Chorus (1963-1985) and Cincinnati's Southern Gateway Chorus (1986, 1990-1995), SPEBSQSA, Inc. He sang in two district championship quartets, The Derbytowners and The Citations. The Citations went on a USO tour to Vietnam in 1972. He also directed Louisville's Kentuckiana and Derby City Choruses of Sweet Adelines International. He was inducted into the SPEBSQSA, Cardinal District, Johnny Appleseed District, PPAGL, Southern Gateway Chorus, and St. Xavier Halls of Fame. Other accomplishments include Director Emeritus of Southern Gateway and The Thoroughbred Choruses, Joe Liles Lifetime Achievement Award in Directin and, eight chorus championships.

Osborne, Steven Edward , 45, died in New Albany on Novermber 16. 2012. He was a guitarist who had played with various Louisville bands, including Bride, 99 MPH, Speed of Sound and The Big Rock Show
