Lonesome Pine Specials In International Television Competition

Three programs from the 1990 season of public television's The Lonesome Pine Specials music and dance series have been chosen for the 1990 Golden Rose International Videokiosk showcase May 9 through May 15 in Montreaux, Switzerland.

These three one hour programs are among a special group selected by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to represent the quality and diversity of United States public television programs in the category of "light entertainment." The Lonesome Pine Specials are a co production of Kentucky Center for the Arts and KET The Kentucky Network and feature outstanding artists from the worlds of classical, jazz, pop, blues and dance.

Other programs selected for the Golden Rose Videokiosk include several from Great Performances, Live From Lincoln Center and Dance In America. The "Yideokiosk," part of the Golden Rose Competition, is an annual international showcase of television programs for producers and buyers.

"We are delighted to be able to represent the United States along with other excellent programs in the international television arena for the second year in a row," says Richard Van Kleeck, Artistic Director and Producer for the series. "Having three programs chosen this year is very special and we are extremely happy to see the artists on these programs receive such recognition. We have exciting plans for the upcoming 1991 Lonesome Pine Specials that will continue our tradition of producing original programs that are simultaneously entertaining and enlightening."

The selected programs from The Lonesome Pine Specials 1990 series include:

ISOBOBS —— A unique and brilliant collaboration featuring the witty, new wave a cappella quartet, the BOBS and the talented and innovative modern dance of ISO.

Masters Of Percussion — A one time gathering of percussion virtuosos featuring steel drums, vibraphones, African drumming, body percussion, jazz and a concert performance of "War Games" for twelve percussionists and two professional wrestlers.

Take 6 — The inimitable 1989 double Grammy award winning jazz/gospel vocal sextet in a brilliant, live performance.

The Lonesome Pine Specials are taped performances, edited and interspersed with artist interviews, from the annual summer series of ten live concerts presented at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The Lonesome Pine Special live series also includes Friday night concerts on the Bomhard Theater stage, presented in the Fal1 to Spring calendar.
