Musical Opportunities

BonnFire Publishing (ASCAP) and Gather 'Round Music (BMI) would like to receive original "positive, uplifting country and country-crossover to pop and R&B songs." They ask that interested songwriters send no more than four songs and proper postage on SASE for return of package to them at P.O. Box 6249, Huntington Beach, CA 92615-6429.

The Music City Song Festival announces the availability of the fifth edition of SoundMakers, a free educational magazine for songwriters and performers. To request a free copy of the magazine and be added to the Music City Song Festival mailing list, write to MCSF, P.O. Box 17999-S, Nashville, TN 37217 or call (615) 834-0027 between 9 am. and 5 p.m. Central Time. Music organizations and educational programs may request bulk shipments.

Nebo Record Company is looking for hit songs for a future recording project with female singer Anita Biss. They need traditional country, modern country, pop, gospel and other type songs for a single and album project.

Songwriters should send only one song on a cassette tape, with neatly typed or printed lyrics. Demo tapes will not be returned, so songwriters should not send their original demo tapes. A SASE is required for a reply. Send requested material to the attention of Jim Lewis, Producer, Nebo Record Company, P.O. Box 457, New Hope, AL 35760. Mr. Lewis says they will listen to all songs sent.

Debbie Hupp, Huptown Music, has scheduled songwriter workshops in Indianapolis and Seattle, following workshops in Louisville and the Cincinnati area in March and April. Affiliated Publishers, Incorporated's third annual SONGFEST, the world's only songwriters' pro-am, will get underway May 31 and continue through June 2 at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, Tenn. (approximately 45 miles south of Nashville).

The Appalachian Jubilee in Chambersburg, Pa. is looking for country bluegrass or country gospel artists who have recordings, to be considered for an appearance on the Jubilee. The Jubilee is a stage/radio production that airs on network radio and is taped at times by PBS.

Artists are invited to send a 45 rpm or cassette tape, along with a photo and bio to Max Cooley, % Appalachian Jubilee, P.O. Box 507, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Howard Vokes, who handles publicity for the Appalachian Jubilee, says it is okay to mention his name when contacting Mr. Cooley.

Elite Productions presents The First Annual Musicians Connection Expo in Detroit, Michigan. "For the first time in Detroit we are assembling under one roof every phase of the music industry," they advertise and suggest that "If you're involved in the music industry, this is the show for you! Get connected to musicians ranging from novice to the professional."

Dream Writers is sponsoring a songwriter seminar (their second one) at the Executive in Owensboro, Ky. on May 19. The seminar will be conducted by David Chamberlain, who wrote "Am I B1ue," "Have I Got Some Blues For You" and "What's Going On in Your World? "

Starting time is 9 a.m. and the event will conclude at 3 p.m. Panelists include Maggie Cavender, Sherrill Blackman and Wanda Collier of Warner Bros.

Cost is $72.50 and includes a hot lunch. Five songwriters will be selected to have co-writing help from Chamberlain.
