Leslie's Motel

Music fans who've been around the 'Ville awhile may remember a kickin' blues band from the mid-1970s called Leslie's Motel. After calling it quits in 1976, four members of the original band have reopened the doors to the Motel with the release of their first CD.
Lucky us. "Leslie's Motel" is a strong album, displaying the band's knack for both soulful blues and smooth jazz, with several roots rock touches thrown in. Their music is very comfortable, conjuring up images of Little Feat or Sonia Dada. The CD was recorded live with no overdubs, making the music sound honest and heartfelt.
Several tracks are standouts on the CD. "Strawberry Man" is sweetly nostalgic, and "Time to Get Serious" is in the Fabulous Thunderbirds mode of no-nonsense rock 'n' roll. The band is equally adept at slinging sorrow, as on "Feel Sorry Song" and "My Blues."
The long layoff apparently hasn't hurt the band's ability to make good music. With the return of Leslie's Motel, the Louisville music scene just gets stronger.
