IUS' Paul W. Ogle Center Opens New Season

If you're tracking venues and stages, add another significant one to your list: the Paul W. Ogle Center at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany.

The Center has three stages. The primary room is the 500-seat Richard K. Stein Concert Hall. The Robinson Theater will hold 350 audience members and there is a yet-to-be-named Recital Hall, which will seat approximately 100.

Besides the performance spaces, the Ogle Center has an art gallery, classrooms, studios and a scene shop.

The 1996-1997 season has already begun. The bookings for the season are diverse, from cellist Janos Starker, Canadian group Tafelmusik and the Guarneri String Quartet to a triple bill show featuring The Coasters, The Drifters and the Platters on October 12. Also ahead are the touring musicals "Red, Hot and Cole," featuring the music of Cole Porter and "Jelly Roll," based on the career of Jelly Roll Morton. Additionally, there will performances by soprano Stella Zambalis, the Kentucky Chamber Players, the Stanford String Quartet and the Derby City Strings.

The facility manager and booker is Kyle Ridout, who is interested in reaching across the Ohio for performers and audiences, while recognizing the challenge of getting Kentuckians to cross the river.

For schedule information, write to the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center, 4201 Grant Line Road, New Albany, Ind. 47150. For ticket information, call (812) 941-2526. Tickets can also be purchased at the Kentucky Center for the Arts or by phone at (502) 584-7777.

Indiana University Southeast is located on Grant Line Road, north of I-265 at the Grant Line Road exit. Parking on campus is free.
