Ryan Jurhs

Name: Ryan Jurhs

Age: 37

Instrument: Bass guitar, guitar, backing vocals, piano and classical guitar.

Band/Former Bands: FLAW, Black Market Hero

How long on instrument: I began playing guitar at 12 years of age. Started playing bass after being approached by Jason Daunt and Chris Volz towards the end of 1997, just over two months out of the Marine Corps.

Equipment: As far as main staple gear, with bass I play through an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro head and 2, 4 x 10 Traynor cabinets. I've always been a devoted lover of Warwick basses, specifically 5 string Corvettes, yet also play a neck through 4 string Spector. For writing with guitars, I absolutely love my Schecter neck through 7 string Hellraiser, killer guitars.

Influences: The list of influences through my life and career would be massive for sure. I started playing music almost solely due to Metallica's ...And Justice For All album. Grew into many others such as Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Primus, Korn, Lamb of God, Tool, 311, Pressure 45, Chevelle and many, many others including a large catalog of classical, swing and jazz artists.

My first gig: My first gig was actually with a band for Church in California. They had us playing a lot of modern rock songs but different lyrics for the youth ministry which at the Church my family attended at the time was quite large...at least a couple hundred kids through each of the age groups.

Hobbies: I love watching movies, in theatre or otherwise. Playing soccer with friends, cooking, going to shows, etc. ......and drinking.

Favorite movies: Too many to list. I definitely enjoy all genres.

Favorite food: Once again, too many to list. As a chef, I love most all types of food. I do hate sushi though.

Favorite place: With so much constantly going on in life between work, music, traveling, etc, my favorite place is home with my girlfriend.

Favorite sports or team: I love football, soccer and basketball. Definitely a U of L fan, GO CARDS!!! Haven't had a favorite football team ever since Manning hasn't been with the Colts but am still a Manning fan and also a fan of Tom Brady.

What I'm listening to nowadays: Recently was introduced to a band called Night Verses, absolutely killer.

Coolest thing I've done: Had the opportunity to play in a signed band and tour the world.

Most embarrassing moment: In first grade I was listening to music on headphones along with a girl in my class and was belting out some Bon Jovi. didn't realize how loud I was being until I turned around to the entire class cracking up. Lol.

Bad Habits: Smoking cigarettes, the ultimate horrible habit.

When/where did you first get some: High school baseball game. Freshman year.

If you could meet a Rockstar ( past or present ), who would it be and why: I would still love to meet James Hetfield. Incredible musician, songwriter, singer. Such an amazing career and life experience.

Who do you love: My girlfriend, parents, family and the best friends anyone could ever hope to have.
