Heading into December, we can all be glad that the "Mayan Apocalypse" won't really happen, at least not because "the calendar ended." They found another one that continues on past that date by a considerable amount. Instead, we can worry about the "fiscal cliff," the extremes of weather caused by climate change and one or two other little things, like all the wars the U.S. gets involved in. So, better we should just enjoy the holidays for now and let tomorrow's troubles wait until tomorrow. Happy holidays to you all.

Following the release of their version Everly Brothers' "Christmas Eve Can Kill You," Bonnie "Prince" Billy And Dawn McCarthy announced on Tuesday (November 20) that they're releasing an entire album inspired by the Everly Brothers, What the Brothers Sang. The project will be released on February 19 via Drag City. However, it "rethinks" the Brothers' work for a modern audience and features many of Oldham's regular collaborators, which should make for an interesting listen.

Leigh Ann Northcutt Yost's deal with SonaBLAST! Records has proven to be useful, as her tune "Beautiful Day" has been used in two movies, She Loves Me Not and 2nd Serve plus it's in that ICN2 weather commercial. Besides that, she says, there's some activity on a couple of tunes she co-wrote with Tim Krekel. (FYI, songs played in movies get synchronization royalties rather than mechanical royalties, under a separate agreement worked out in the early Forties. There are also rights accorded to the use of the master recording.)

Downs, Robert William "Petie " Jr, 64, died in Louisville ON November 8, 2012. He was a former singer with New Birth, the R&B group orginally put together by Harvey Fuqua and Vernon Bullock in the early Seventies.

Watkins, Donald L, 58, died in Louisville on November 4, 2012. He was a writer, promoter and gospel recording artist, a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and toured with Dr. Bobby Jones and The New Life Singers/Nashville Super Choir.
