• Word has it that the Bobby Lanz Band will be playing their last gig on New Year's Eve. Lanz will be focusing his attention on recording. All you Lanz fans had best catch him at the Hyatt Regency while you can.

• JuJu is reported to be playing their last gig New Year's. Singer Janet Peterson will be moving over to sing with Stages.

• The J. D. Black Band has added a new keyboard player, Tim Brashear, formerly with City Lights. Brashear has most recently been on the road with Lee Bradley. For those of you who wondered why you haven't seen JDBB in their old haunts, it's because they've been the house band at the Desert Rose Inn since August.

• Ben Daughtery has returned to the Love Jones fold, according to Jeffrey Puckett's December 15 column in the CJ. Daughtery has been touring with the Lemonheads, who got a nice write-up in a national magazine a couple of months back. Yer humble correspondent caught Love Jones a while back at Dutch's Tuesday-night event and was impressed. Somebody oughta write a story about that band. Hmmm, say, Chief Ed . . .

• Tim Haertel has been named Senior Engineer at Falk Recording Service, replacing David Blythe, who has taken an "oil patch" job with Haliburton in Shreveport, Louisiana. Andy High has moved from duplication to studio engineer and Marshall Yancey is second engineer.

• On the recording scene, Falk has been busy since opening the new studio, recording a Ballard High Madrigal singers album; an album for Commonwealth Chorus, conducted by Jim Rightmyer; Eastern High School recorded a Christmas concert, conducted by Elizabeth Mears; the Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church Singing Christmas Tree, conducted by Frank Heller, recorded a performance; Moe Bear and the Grizzly River Band cut a single. The Cruisers cut two original Christmas tunes; The Monarchs cut "My Christmas Wish," a Christmas song written by Bill Owens, music minister at Middletown Christian Church; both tunes have been getting some airplay; Audio Koncept, a rap group, cut a demo; Tina Riggs, a Contemporary Christian singer, cut some demos; finally, South Oldham High and Middle Schools did Christmas recordings.
