Hitmakers '92

Mark November 6 and 7 on your calendar. those are the dates for the Co-op's 1992 seminar and showcase, Hitmakers '92. Complete details have yet to be worked out, but here are the main outlines and details that have been.

The Showcase

The big change for this year is the Showcase. The Co-op will take over Jim Porter's Good Time Emporium for a three-stage, fourteen act showcase. Performers range from single acts to full bands, all of whom are looking for that record deal. The Co-op is lining A&R representatives to look the acts over. The Co-op has already lined up four A&R representatives from major labels in Nashville. The remaining three major labels are also expected to represented. Additionally, Board members are working on A&R reps from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

The Bands.

The bands who will play on the Showcase were selected back in April and May. They will be playing songs written by members of the Co-op, as well as their own material, plus a cover or two. The groups are:

da Mudcats

Uncle Pecos

Karen Kraft and Kicks

R.U.O.K?

John Allen Band

Walker and Kays

Sharon Beavers

LMNOP

Melissa Combs

Doc and Mary Dockery

J. D. Black

Londa Crenshaw

Rusty Bladen

Jackie Johnson

The Showcase will cost $5, which is indeed a bargain.

The Seminar

The Seminar will be held at the Quality Inn, 100 E. Jefferson St., in downtown Louisville. In addition to the record label representatives, the panelist will once again feature reps from the three performing rights organizations, ASCAP, BMI and SESAC; reps from the Nashville Songwriters Association, International; publishers, including Music Mill, Benson and others; plus a surprise or two to be announced later. Overall, we expect a panel as strong as last year's and even more diversified. Watch the next issue of the LASC Letter for a more complete listing of the line-up.

The cost of the Seminar and Showcase has not changed from last year. A complete package will cost $55 for non-members of the Co-op and $45 for members. The package includes admission to the Showcase, the Seminar and the Awards Banquet. (At press time, the entries for Songwriting Competition '92 were running well ahead of last year.)

Some other changes are in the works for the Seminar and Awards Banquet as well, but details are not yet available.

Watch the next issue for more details. For more information as November approaches, call (502) 231-5559.
