Jerky Boys Soundtrack (Atlantic/ Select)

It's almost a crying shame that a movie this bad has a soundtrack this good. It does not deserve it.

In fact, the only bad parts of the disc are the snippets from the movie. The Jerky Boys made a name for themselves by pulling crank calls on unsuspecting people.

The few examples on the album proved to me that the Jerky Boys are obnoxious, rude, racist jerks who would not know funny if it sat on them. Perfect movie material.

Skip that slop and you'll find a treasure chest of songs that will appeal to just about everyone at one point or another.

Rap fans will chill to the selections of Coolio & the 40 Thevz, House of Pain and the Wu-Tang Clan. Hurricane, the DJ for the Beastie Boys, also lays down a dope track, with the Beasties joining in.

Prefer your music with a guitar? Check out Helmet, Green Day, L7 and Collective Soul, the last of whom offers quite a catchy tune with "Gel."

And then there's the category-defying Tom Jones, who does a kitschy-cool cover of Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way." Jones puts the other young punks on the album to shame with his sweat-inducing version.

If you can forgive the purpose of this album, then you're likely to find something to like. I wish I could say the same for the movie.
