Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

"I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date." - the White Rabbit.

Well, not really re: important date. Mostly, your humble editor/scribe has been working on putting the complete run of Louisville Music News onto a USB drive, with a Linux distro running as a server. I have all the stories, of course, and some of the events database, but the oldest of those are trapped in an old, malfunctioning MS Access database that insists on a non-existent password that cannot be retrieved, even by software written specifically for the task. Sigh.

I'm down to creating an optional image display page for all the extra bio pics and other photos not used in the regular publication. Might just skip that.

Otherwise, the events calendar is filling up fast, with plenty of old and new acts/performers out on the road, trying to make a living in the music industry. The much-touted “long tail” of emarketing has proven to be a myth; the various businesses offering music streaming services are getting their revenue from advertising and kicking trivial amounts to the creators and performers. It's as though ASCAP, BMI and SESAC never existed or, at least, never acknowledged the web's effect on the industry. However, efforts are underway….

Anyway, gets your tickets early, at least for those shows likeliest to sell out. What that really means, is those up-and-coming acts that have not yet grabbed the attention of the resellers, a.k.a. scalpers. (That's not a legit business in some sense, as some bigger venues have hired resellers as house-brand ticket-sellers.)

Enough grumping. Have a happy Valentine's Day and keep your fingers crossed on the weather.
