Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

Your humble editor is mostly back on track at the end of October, now fully recovered from the excesses of late September and early October. For the record, three editions of Louisville Music News from the Nineties have been posted:

• July, 1994, featuring Steven Curtis Chapman on the cover at http://www.louisvillemusicnews.net/webmanager/index.php?WEB_CAT_ID=50&issueid=65

• June, 1994, featuring Kelly Richey on the cover at http://www.louisvillemusicnews.net/webmanager/index.php?WEB_CAT_ID=50&issueid=64

• May, 1994, featuring Sam Bush on the cover at http://www.louisvillemusicnews.net/webmanager/index.php?WEB_CAT_ID=50&issueid=63

In the upcoming concerts, a few noted ones:

• Nobel Prize winner Bob Dylan will bring his award-winning works to the Kentucky Center For The Arts on November 1. There is utterly no point in writing anything about this show except to tell you it's happening. Tickets are $49.50.

• Your choice for early November, if you are a fan of nerdcore has to be the Diamond Pub show, starring Mega Ran, with MC Lars and MC Chris, on November 2. Mega Ran, a.k.a. Raheem Jarbo, is a college graduate and school teacher with a long, long list of recordings to his credit, as well as providing music to various games. Some of his albums provide coursework at Penn State University, Temple University, and Virginia Tech. Not your ordinary rapper, in other words. Tickets are $16.

• The Drive-By Truckers have been the launching pad and stewpot for any number of alt-country performers from Athens. Georgia and the surrounding areas, including, perhaps most notably, Jason Isbell. They have a new record, American Band, just released in September. They're heading to Headliners Music Hall on November 2 for a show to play some of the new tunes - which are somewhat more politically focused than with other albums - as well as the old ones. Kyle Craft will open. Tickets are $28 adv. $30 DoS.

• Eddy likes Stryper: "Christian Rockers Stryper will be in Louisville for the first show in I don't know how long! I liked these guys a lot growing up and they are still kicking ass! I will definitely try to be at this one! Those guys are brilliant musicians."

• Brown County's The Reverend Peyton s Big Damn Band heads into the Mercury Ballroom on November 10, for one of their 250 or so roots / alt Country / blues shows they do every year, which might be called "working for a living." Peyton is steeped in old-timey-ish music, to the degree that he plays a 1930 steel-bodied National guitar, a 1934 wood-bodied National Trojan Resonator guitar and a 1994 reproduction of a 1929 Gibson acoustic. Record scratches optional. Their latest record is 2015's So Delicious. They have bunch more, too - take extra cash money. The Supersuckers and Jesse Dayton will open. Tickets are $10.

Other picks from Eddy:

• "Five Finger Death Punch, Shinedown And Sixx A.M will play KFC Yum! Center on Friday, November 18. This sounds like a fun show! And you even get some Nikki Sixx thrown in for good measure! I recently saw FFDP bassist and former Kentucky native Chris Kael at The Mercury Ballroom recently, just checking out some music. He was signing autographs and talking to folks. I remember when that dude was playing in local bands around here. I would like to see Sixx A.M, I haven't seen them before. My RFK show is the next night, so I might go to this and pass out flyers n' stuff, if the YUM center lets me. I will ask them first. Once at Freedom Hall, I almost went to jail for handing out flyers for a show! "

• "The Black Dahlia Murder, Sadistic Creato and Incursion502, Wednesday, November 23 at The New Vintage! This should be a pretty sick show, and equally brutal. I know the Incursion guys have been working towards jamming regularly again, and apparently that time has come. They haven't played out for a few, so I know they will be itching to let loose. Get your tickets in advance, this will probably sell out."

Other shows worth looking into include: Robert Randolph & the Family Band atHeadliners on November 3; Styx at the Louisville Palace on November 8;Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Palace, November 15; John Prine at the Palace, November 18; Riders In the Sky at the Paul W. Ogle Cultural Center, November 22. Keep checking the website for more, as they just keep on coming.

See you next time.
