Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

The Big Wind of 2008 knocked out power and Internet to the LMN offices for seven days, which pushed our print date right up against the first day of October. I can recall only one other time that we ran so late. I apologize to anyone inconvenienced by this.

• Noted Louisville guitarist Steve Ferguson has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. While it is not the usual practice at LMN to discuss private health matters, Ferguson's illness is sufficiently serious (and already known in the music community) to warrant some special efforts on the part of the Musicians Emergency Resource Foundation, for which Ferguson has been a stalwart volunteer, playing whenever asked. The November event will be primarily, if not entirely dedicated to raising money for him. More information about the event will be forthcoming. Anyone interested in volunteering and/or contributing to MERF can contact the oranization via the website at www.merfbenefit.org or emailing me at editor@louisvillemusicnews.net.

• Louisvillian Mark Wilkerson, author of Who Are You: The Life of Pete Townshend. will kick off his national book tour with a talk and book signing at Barnes & Noble, 801 South Hurstbourne Parkway in Louisville on Sunday, October 19 at noon.

• The Louisville Youth Choir has a new ten-week Primary Choir program for singers in the first, second and third grades, set for Tuesday evenings from October 7 to December 16, 2008. No audition is required to participate and the program will conclude with a performance on December 19, 2008.

Rehearsals will be held at Sacred Heart School for the Arts. For more information or to register, call the Louisville Youth Choir office at 502-896-5859 or go to www.theyouthchoir.org for registration forms.
