Jazz Week 2001

The University of Louisville School of Music's Jamie Aebersold Jazz Studies Program will present the Eighth Annual Jazz Week 2001 February 18 - 24. The week-long program features concerts, lectures, clinics and various musical presentations, with guest artist serving as both instructors and performers.

This year, the guest artists include pianist Harry Pickens, pianist and jazz innovator McCoy Tyner and the McCoy Tyner Trio; Chinese pianist and improviser, Jon Jang; Brazilian jazz group Com Domino do Sax; trombonist Curtis Fuller and alto saxophonist Phil Woods. Besides the guest artists, the Jazz Studies faculty, including Mike Tracy, John La Barbera, Jamey Aebersold, Michael Ferraraccio, Jerry Tolson and Tyrone Wheeler, will instruct and perform.

Students attending the program will benefit from the hands-on experience of performing and interacting with the artists.

The concert schedule is listed under Jazz in the Upcoming Music section on pages 12 and 13. Ticket packages for all the concerts are $65 general admission and $35 for students with ID. The concerts are also individually priced. All concerts except the Harry Pickens/ St. Stephens Church choir concert (at St. Stephens Church) will be held at the Margaret Comstock Concert Hall at the School of Music.
