Bluegrass Beat
By Berk Bryant

March - hup two three four, hup two three four - uh oh, not that kind of March. As tradition has it, "in like a Lion and out like a Lamb." It's normally a rather dramatic transition from Old Man Winter to the refreshing of everything - Spring. Spring means, of course, outdoor events like bluegrass festivals. ALL RIGHT!!! So now that you have been warned, get packing. They're all over, so Bluegrass Unlimited is almost like a bluegrass festival travel brochure if you watch the ads. They sort of pop up and bloom all over, which offers a variety of choices, and the choice is yours.

Cheers for Cherryholmes

Last month at Shepherdsville, Cherryholmes really got attention. I was expecting a big turnout, and wasn't disappointed. I was surprised by how early many of the folks arrived. I got there about 7 p.m. and the parking lot was nearly full already. By show time, it was a full house. The crowd was ready for Cherryholmes, and Cherryholmes was ready for us. They run in high gear from start to finish. They have really proved themselves with great performances, numerous nominations and a fair amount of awards. All in less than three full years. If I remember correctly, Jere, the father, said the youngsters began playing about seven years ago and they decided to go into music fully just a little under three years ago. These folks have got their act together. Keep that fire lit. No telling where this start will take you. For starters they were leaving for Switzerland the next day after their Shepherdsville appearance.

Shepherdsville Shows

March and C.R. Wilson is going to bring these acts to SHEPHERDSVILLE:

March 3, Big Country Bluegrass. March 10, Rick Nelson & The Midnight Travelers. March 17, Wildwood Valley Boys. March 24, Lewis & Clark Expedition. March 31, Melvin Goins & Windy Mountain with Tommy Brown & County Line Grass. April 7, Steve Helton & The Flint River Boys.

Very Important Event

Another March event will be the WFPK 91.9 FM Spring(?) fund drive. As you all know, we are listener supported, hence the Spring and Fall fund drives. This is a time to show support for favorite programs.

And don't forget Sunday Bluegrass, 8-11 p.m. each Sunday. Bluegrass, traditional country and old time country.

OK, I'll toss in the broken strings, I apologize that this month's blog is about the size of a commemorative postage stamp. That's just the way it is some months; I just didn't get out much in February. I did find out around Valentine's Day that if you think gas is high you haven't priced a dozen roses lately. Better luck next time.
