Loverboy at Coyote's

Coyote's was definitely Loverboy territory on February 10 when the club hosted CMC International recording artists Loverboy. The Canadian-based band. touring in support their current release, Six. started their set with their classic hit, "Hot Girls in Love." From there, it didn't take long for the audience to warm up to the band's famous rock 'n' roll.

They kept the crowd on their feet with more classic songs, which the audience sang right along with. Working their way through "Turn Me Loose," "Working for the Weekend" and a danceable version of "The Kid is Hot Tonite." Loverboy also included their last Top-40 tune, "Notorious."

Vocalist Mike Reno was no slouch, either, considering that he was battling the flu. He played to the audience. copping the now-famous pose immortalized on the Get Lucky album and joked about the red-leather-pants days of the band. He even danced a step or two.

During an extended version of "Lady of the 80's," from the 1980 self-titled album, bassist Scott Smith and drummer Matthew Frenette showed off their soloist abilities, as did guitarist Paul Dean and new keyboardist Richard Sera on "Waiting for the Night. " one of two songs performed from Six.

They capped the evening with "Jump"(not to be confused with the Van Halen song) and "Lovin' Every Minute of It," involving additional audience participation. The show was shorter than expected, possibly due to Reno's illness. Nonetheless, the show was indeed energetic and then some.

Local band Silverloop opened the concert, performing various covers ranging from Bush to Golden Earring.
