Louisville now has two more new Christian radio stations. WLSY FM 94.7 (formerly the "soul classics" station) is now a music and teaching station, which features mostly talk radio and call-in shows from early morning to mid-evening (including the welcome return of the "Bible Answer Man" broadcast, nightly at 6 p.m.), with praise and worship music filling in the rest of the evening. WRVI FM 105.9 (formerly the Eighties station) is now "the River," a Christian pop music station, featuring such artists as Steven Curtis Chapman, Susan Ashton, dc Talk, the Newsboys and newcomer Bebo Norman, among others. Hopefully, "the River" will in time add a few edgier artists to their playlist, but for now they're off to a good start.

In other radio news, WJIE FM 88.5/93.9 has replaced "The Edge," their Saturday night youth-oriented show with "Z-Jam," a nationally syndicated broadcast that aims for the teens with hot new music and giveaways. Steven Curtis Chapman will perform at Valley View Christian Church on November 26

Christian concert-goers have plenty to be thankful for this November, with lots of big-ticket shows hitting the area. Of course, the biggest show this month is Steven Curtis Chapman with special guest Geoff Moore, Friday November 26 at Valley View Baptist Church. Fans of ska and swing will want to check out the "Holy Roller Tour," sponsored by Five Minute Walk Records, featuring Five Iron Frenzy, The W's, The Insyderz and Justin McRoberts. The show will happen Sunday, November 14 at (get this!) Champ's Hurstbourne Rollerdrome, 9851 Hurstbourne Lane, which means you can skate while you jam. And while we're on the subject of skating, Jars of Clay will perform a free (w/ ticket stub) show Saturday, December 18, following a Louisville Panthers game at Broadbent Arena. Speaking of Jars of Clay, their new CD If I Left the Zoo hits stores November 9. If you're one of the blessed folk who got to see Sixpence None the Richer at Headliners last month, or if you like their new song, "There She Goes," that's on the radio, hear this: "There She Goes" is not available as a single. It's available only on new copies of their album Sixpence None the Richer. However, for those of us who purchased copies of SNTR before "There She Goes" came out, the band's label, Squint Entertainment, is making a free CD single of the song available. It's a cover of a song that appears twice on the soundtrack album of the 1993 Mike Myers film, "So I Married An Axe-Murderer." The bands that do the song are the La's and the Boo Radleys.

Lastly, the world of Southern Gospel music is mourning the passing of Glen Payne, beloved leader and talented lead vocalist of the legendary Cathedral Quartet, following a battle with liver cancer. He was 72 years old. Over 1,200 people attended his funeral service, including the Oak Ridge Boys, Bill Gaither, Kirk Talley, Rex Humbard and David Ring. Needless to say, Glen was sent home with plenty of heartfelt singing and remembrances. He will be missed.
