Tyrone Pipe Band Conquers Louisville

The Clonoe Independent Pipe Band had a great visit to River City. Derby denizens heard world class piping and drumming and experienced the "craic," an Irish word generally meaning "good times" or "lively atmosphere." O'Shea's and Molly Malone's will never be the same again. The Ulster group made many friends and look forward to seeing them again. In fact, they certainly will when both CIPB and the Louisville Pipe Band travel to Glasgow, Scotland for the World Pipe Band Championships in August.

Support Your Local Pipe Band

To raise funds to make the trip to Scotland, the LPB is producing a show that promises to offer a great evening of entertainment. As well as band members in various configurations, the program will have Celtic folk bands Drowsy Maggie and Galloglas. Scottish Highland dancers will join the McClanahan School of Irish Dance to show how one moves to such music. In addition, Kentucky's best piper, Skip Cleavinger, will be on hand for some solo numbers. Don't miss it!! Saturday, April 1 at 8 p.m. at the Clifton Center. Ten Penny Bit in History!

Hear TPB hold forth for some historical gatherings: April 8 at the Scottsburg, Indiana Historical Society (8 p.m.) where the Titanic will be remembered; it is hoped without any of the tragic consequences. On the 14th, the band entertains the Corydon Coffeestop at 8 p.m.. The Queen City welcomes the return of TPB to R. P. McMurphy's Pub from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on April 15. Galloglas at Cherokee Triangle Art Fair

The pan Celts will play for the fairgoers from the Willow Park Gazebo on Saturday, April 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. They will also being doing a short program at St. Andrews United Church of Christ on Browns Lane on Sunday, April 2 at 3 p.m..

Get Ready For Glasgow

The 2000 Glasgow Highland games opens with a beach party on Thursday, June 1 with a show by Celtic rockers Seven Nations. Drowsy Maggie will open to rile up the crowd for the headliners. Much more information will be provided in the next issue (if the Games' committee will send Rock the information).

Kentucky Scottish Weekend

The second major Celtic event in Kentucky this year (St. Patrick's Day being first) is the KSW at General Butler State Park in Carrollton on the SECOND Saturday in May. Again, more later, provided they send it to me in time.
