Great New Session in Lexington

Another new Irish music session has started at the "Parting Glass II" pub in Lexington, Kentucky. Players come from all over, including Berea and Cincinnati, and there is usually some ceili dancing going on as well. The next regular session is Wednesday, September 13. From Louisville, take I-64 to New Circle Road to Harrodsburg Road exit, where you turn left and go about a mile past Turfland Mall. The pub is on Lane Allen Road. For better directions and more information call the pub at (859) 278-0815. Banjo player Dan Cummins is probably Kentucky's top trad player and he is usually in attendance, so a good time is guaranteed.

Louisville Pipe Band at the Worlds

Although the band did not bring home any trophies, they were proud of their performance and had a fantastic experience. For starters, they were in the "Millennium March" (to benefit the Marie Curie Cancer Center in Edinburgh) along with 12,000 other pipers (not including the drummers, which was another 3,000 at least). This is NOT a misprint! If you are interested in joining the fun, call 894-8856 for more information.

Ten Penny Bit for Your Dancing Feet

If you'd like to win a free Ten Penny Bit CD, sign the guest register of their web page this month at www.tenpennybit.com. If you, like me, prefer the flesh, you can hook up with our merry band on September 9 at the Bedford, Kentucky Apple Festival, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and again at the Painted Stone Festival in Shelbyville, Kentucky on the 14th and 15th. On the 23rd, they will be at the Thomas Family Winery in Madison, Indiana from 8 to 11 p.m., where they have a loyal following and an intimate setting in which to ply their trade. Your last chance in September will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ursuline Art Fair, Sunday, September 24.

Galloglas CD

According to sound engineer Don Ernst,  a recording is about 85% finished,  so stay tuned. Although most of their time in September will be taken by weddings and private events, they will have three shows you can catch. On Saturday, September 29 at 7 p.m., they will on stage at the Cincinnati Celtic Music Festival in Coney Island. There will be many other great local, regional, national and international performers, there so you might consider going both Saturday and Sunday. Galloglas will also be at the Ursuline Art Fair on Sunday, September 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. After a long hiatus, Galloglas will return to Molly Malone's on Saturday, September 16 from 10 to 1. Joining the band will be members of the Rashers, with whom they make up a new entity called "Quinn's Row."

Dribs and Drabs

Rumors abound about a new pub/cafe opening soon that will feature Celtic music. Keep your ears to the ground and your eyes on Louisville Music News. Molly Malone's still features a regular session on Sundays from 4 to 7 p.m. Don't forget to get your tickets to Solas at the Bomhard on November 17.Slan, Decimus Rock

Paul: Galloglas: 9/16 at Molly Malone's with Quinn's Row              9/24 Ursuline Art Fair 2 to 3 p.m.              9/29 Cincinnati Celtic Festival 7 p.m.
