Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society At Headliners

There are only a few who really qualify for the title “guitar god,” but one of the best graced us with his presence on September 24 at Headliners. Zakk Wylde, who made his mark with Ozzy, brought his band Black Label Society to Louisville for some ear-splitting metal and astonishing guitar playing.

The band played a tight set, doing over half the songs from the recent CD Stronger Than Death, including-“13 Years Of Grief,” “All For You,” “Ain’t Life Grand,” “Phoney Smiles & Fake Hellos,” the title song, and the raging “Superterrorizor.”

Wylde gave the crowd a treat with a return to his days with Ozzy, playing awesome versions of “War Pigs” and “No More Tears.” In addition to being a kick-butt guitarist, the man can sing well, too. (Yep - Ozzy sure can pick ‘em!)

There were times during the show that I noticed people just watching intently as his fingers flew over the guitar strings. Some, including me, were dazzled. Zakk Wylde is a “guitar god,” without a doubt.

If you missed this show, make sure you catch Black Label Society next time around. Louisville acts Faceplant and My Own Victim pumped the crowd up with their energetic sets.
