Gabrielle Kays

Name: Gabrielle Kays

Age: 3000, it feels like.

Instrument: Bass Guitar

Band/Former Bands: The Revenants

How long on instrument: hhhmmm, Let's say 15 years? But that doesn't mean too much. I always need more practice.

Equipment: I use a '69 Sunn 2000S amp and Traynor cabinets; ESP Surveyor and my favorite old Japanese Fender active basses but it's always evolving! I can't ever find the "perfect" pedals. Right now it's just a BOSS bass overdrive and a tuner pedal. I think if you've got a good tube head you can keep things pretty simple.

Influences: Are pretty varied. Here's an example of weirdness from yesterday morning … Bobby Darin into D.I. into Venom into Bach into Circle Jerks into Cop Shoot Cop into "hey let's find that new NIN track". You Tube is such a rabbit hole when you're pounding coffee.

My first gig: Wow, I can hardly remember which one was actually "first." I think it was one I booked at a community center for a Youth Alliance when I was around 15. I've always loved booking events and being involved in shows. As far as The Revenants, I think our first "show" was actually a house party.

Hobbies: Any sort of arts/crafts and reading. Photography, sewing, jewelry making, cello playing.

Favorite movies: Lost Highway, Universal Monsters

Favorite food: Anything ethic and spicy.

Favorite place: They're all secret! Depending on the weather and the company.

Favorite sports or team: Could not care less. I wouldn't give you a dime for every sports game ever played!

What I'm listening to nowadays: I'm pretty excited to hear that Gwar and Pig Destroyer are putting out new albums.

Coolest thing I've done: Being Danzig's chauffeur. Which turned into us blasting The Ramones and hitting up a White Castle drive-thru after shopping for books and records all day. Very surreal moment in my life so far!

Most embarrassing moment: A few years ago (Revenants) were to play a showcase of sorts in Lexington. We didn't pack our van very well and when we arrived at the show we realized that almost everything was broken! Input jacks on two amps and an instrument. And another time where the bass drum head ripped on the first song in Indianapolis. I hate those moments on stage that you can't fix.

Bad Habits: Shyness and sarcasm but maybe they're working out okay.

When/where did you first get some: Get some great new records? I'm pretty happy that Better Days is back open on Bardstown Road. Always trolling for new gear and good music.

If you could meet a Rockstar (past or present), who would it be, and why: I've been fortunate to meet quite a few people that influenced me growing up. I don't want to "meet" anybody as much as I would love to play with them.

Who do you love:SATAN
