Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

• Ah, Derby Week – Louisville's nearly two-week long civic holiday, matched only by New Orleans' Mardi Gras celebration – is nearly halfway through as this is written. The music for the various events is ongoing, though it's mostly music for those over thirty-five, with, perhaps, the exception of Walk The Moon on the Kroger Fest-A-Ville stage on May 2. It might be considered a plus that the music scene away from official Derby events continues right along, just as it does during the State Fair. There will be some fall-off in big name shows after Derby, but there still are no nights when there is no music to go here. That's a good thing, if you're a music fan.

So mind your alcohol intake over the next few days and remember, arrange for a designated driver. A trip to jail is really not a good way to end Derby week.

• Also as this is being written, news that the Louisville Orchestra battle may finally be over for another year. The reported agreement is for a year only, at which time there will likely be another set-to, unless, of course, the opposing parties decide to take different courses of action. It also may be too late to repair the damage to the Orchestra's reputation, not to mention the subscription sales. Keep your fingers crossed.

• Sonablast Records will publish the late Tim Krekel's last CD "Sings Up the Sun." The national release date is June 5, with the Louisville release show set for Saturday, June 2 at the Rudyard Kipling. Jason Krekel will front a band for the local release, with additional individual members to be announced at a later date. The CD features songs Krekel was working on prior to his death.

• The producers of Abbey Road On The River festival and Louisville's Axxis Productions have completed a partnership agreement, with Axxis Production becoming an investing partner and the lead technical producer for the festival.
