• Here's an event best left to the organizers to describe: " Hear + Now and 21c Museum are proud to present the third concert in the Hear + Now music series on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. The mission of Hear + Now is to bring concerts of music by local composers to audiences in a dynamic and accessible environment. This event will emphasize the modern use of the harpsichord, featuring a newly-arranged movement of Gerald Plain's Concerto for Recorder and Chamber Orchestra. This arrangement for recorder, harpsichord, string quartet and bass features the internationally known recorder virtuosa Eva Legêne , for whom the piece was written.

Other works featured during the program will be the premiere of a solo harpsichord work by Jacob Gotlib ; Dale Golden 's "Concerto Grosso" for harpsichord and string quartet; a piece for soprano, harpsichord, and violin by Jeremy Beck and two a cappella vocal works by Richard Burchard , performed by the Louisville Vocal Project."

The show happens on Thursday, March 8. Doors 7:30 p.m., show 8:00 p.m. 21c Museum Hotel Atrium Gallery, 700 W. Main St.

• Cameron Deeb of Culture Obscura is putting together a poster art book of Louisville punk bands from the Seventies and Eighties, His deadline is the end of March and he is seeking pieces for the book. If you have an old band posters from era, give me a shout out at cultureobscura@gmail.com.

• It would be good if it were possible to write that the Louisville Orchestra situation had improved over the last month, but, sadly, it has not. The LO board offered the musicians binding arbitration, which the musicians turned down, noting that the LO Board selected the initial pool of arbitrators, set parameters that on the arbitrator's authority and refused to entertain counter-proposals. Subsequently, several Louisville labor union leaders threatened to withhold Fund For The Arts donations unless the Fund and Mayor Fischer set up a special panel to resolve the nearly year-long dispute. This was followed by a demonstration by those labor groups and LO musicians at a Kentucky Opera performance of the Merry Widow. The KO had hired amateur musicians to perform, stating that the cost of the LO musicians was beyond their budget.

Charlie Chesterman, front man and driving force behind punk band Scruffy The Cat is battling cancer. A compilation CD of his songs is in the works and a track from Louisville band The Uncommon Houseflies has been selected to be included. The Houseflies, which includes regular LMN contributor Kevin Gibson, cover "A New Lease on Life Parts 1 & 2." For more details, head over to http://chestermantribute.bandcamp.com/

Jahn, Reid, 54, died on February 5, 2012. He was a longtime Louisville musician who played with a number of bands, from City Lights to his longtime partnership with Pat Lentz. A memorial, attended by a great many Louisville musicians, was held on February 13.
