McCall is Back At It

Never Say Never Again (Rural Rhythm)
Dwight McCall

For the last 10 years, Dwight McCall's powerful lead and tenor vocals and hard-driving mandolin have contributed to the unique sound of one of the best bluegrass bands in the business, J.D. Crowe and The New South. This solo recording is a showcase for his exceptional musical talent and he does it all: lead, tenor and baritone vocals, mandolin and banjo. Additionally, he penned the poignant "Goodbye My Friend" (a tribute to his brother who died in a car accident in 2000), a heartfelt "Don't Break My Heart Again," and a stirring gospel track, "He Never Turned Away."

McCall is in superb company. First-rate musical support comes from some of the most respected names in Bluegrass: Alan Bibey (mandolin), Randy Kohrs (Dobro), Ron Stewart (banjo, fiddle and mandolin), Brian Stephens (guitar), Harold Nixon (bass), Steve Gulley (tenor vocals on "Blue Eyed Boston Boy" and "Pathway of My Savior"), Ricky Wasson (tenor and baritone vocals on "West Virginia Ground," and "He Never Turned Away)" and Lou Reid (tenor on "Poor Old Man").

Several of my favorite selections included a barn-burning "Time of Our Lives," the soulful arrangement of "Pathway of My Savior" (with beautiful twin fiddles) and the expressive cover for Michael Martin Murphy's "Lost River."

This recording will grab the attention of the most demanding fan. "Never Say Never Again" is a wonderful collection of skillfully performed songs.
