Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

• Sometimes the writers at LMN just get carried away with their love for the music. Happened this month; several of them wrote really long, so I get to write short to give them room. Also, almost all of the photos they sent me will be posted online at www.louisvillemusicnews.net.

• In the shameless plug department, I am involved in a TV show called "The Players Spot," which will air/narrowcast on WYCS Channel 24/138 Insight Cable on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. We're shooting the show on Thursdays at Gerstle's Place, with two guest singer/songwriters for each show. There will also be a jam session either/or before or after the shoot, so if you are an acoustic picker, stop on by. We tend to play Americana from the 60s-90s, plus original music.

• Heidi Howe is launching another singer/songwriter showcase, Heidi's HOWsE Party this one at the Comedy Caravan on the last Monday of the every month, at least in 2007. The first one will be an exception: Monday, December 11, will be a benefit for Dare to Care, with The Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Alan Rhody and Sean Hopkins of Dallas Alice. Showtime is 7 p.m., doors at 6:30 p.m., admission $2 or an unopened jar of peanut butter.

Quite a number of friends and family gathered at the Rudyard Kipling on November 22 to pay tribute to the late Gordon Graham, an eccentric singer-songwriter who died in September at forty-seven of lung cancer. The tribute, put together by Graham's high school friend, publicist and former public radio personality Leslie Stewart, was an interesting mix of Louisville's acoustic music community, including danny flanigan, John Corder, Marcy French, Serpent Wisdom's Jak Son Renfro and Ken Luccese, Heidi Howe, Joel Timothy, Langan Smith, Bill Ede, Woody Mauldin and yours truly. Members of Graham's family were also there. There were a number of surprised comments from those attending about the range of friends Graham had.

The event was also a fund-raiser for the St. John's Center, where Graham lived out his last years. Graham's CDs are on sale at ear X-tacy.

• Space considerations often mean we have stuff we can’t print, a case in point being the upcoming interview and review with Staind. Check the website for the interview before their December 8 show. A review will run in January
