Down On The Corner

The downpour of September 22-23 did considerable damage to lots of folks in the Kentuckiana area and here at LMN, we were not immune, though we did not suffer nearly the damage that some folks did. However, the unhappiest calamity befell the primary computer used to do the layouts as well as gather all the emails and such used for the paper, including this column: the machine got wet, though not completely flooded. The good news was that the main drive suffered no damage; the bad news was that the machine would not power up. Off to the tech it went and enough info was retrieved to complete this issue on another, older, slower but undamaged machine. The emails, however, remain unretrieved and so this column will be the poorer for it.

• Attention Songwriters (and those who would be) - The Nashville Songwriter's Association, International (N.S.A.I.) will be in Louisville on Saturday, October 28 to help celebrate the Louisville chapter's 25^th Anniversary. Louisville holds the record of being the longest running Regional Workshop affiliated with N.S.A.I. The event will run from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Hurstbourne.

There will be a workshop from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. featuring an industry panel of Nashville music business figures who will discuss the music business and evaluate songs for the participants. Scheduled to appear are Woody Bomar, publisher, songwriter, song plugger, former Sony executive and current owner of Green Hills Music owner, published songwriters including Bardstown native James Dean Hicks ("Sweet Kisses," "Jesus and Mama." "It Takes a Little Rain..."); Bob Regan ("Your Everything," "Thinkin' About You"); and Debi Cochran ("My Kind of Girl," "This is Me Missing You"). A 45-minute showcase will follow.

N.S.A.I. staff members Lisbeth Shiveley, NSAI National Workshop Manager and Sheree Spann, NSAI National Membership Director will be on hand for this event.

N.S.A.I. helps aspiring songwriters learn the craft of songwriting and what Nashville is looking for in a song that is ready to be published and pitched to recording artists.

Regular meetings of the Louisville Workshop are held at Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Rd., on the second Monday of every month. The next meeting is October 9, at 7:30 pm.
