Down On The Corner
By Paul Moffett

Dept. of Persistence Pays: Yours truly has been driving down to Lexington once or twice a month for a while to record some of my tunes at Long Island Recording/Lexington School of Recording Arts. The fellow producing the, Michael Thomas, plays in a Jimmy Buffet cover band that has decided to record a CD, per requests from their fans. So, quite of the blue, he asked if they could cut a tune of mine, "Madman On the Corner," which I wrote some twenty-five years ago. You coulda knocked me over with a feather. Thanks, Michael, you made my day.

• We hear from the Louisville chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association, International, that August 19 was the 25th anniversary of that chapter, which is also the longest-running NSAI affiliate.

A celebration is planned for October 28 (location to be announced). It will include publishers and professional songwriters from Nashville and NSAI staff members who will conduct an all-day workshop for aspiring songwriters. One song will be evaluated. Bring CD or cassette tape and four lyric sheets.

The chapter meets monthly at Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Rd. at 7:30 p.m. The next two meetings are set for September 11 and October 9.

For more information, call Richard Meredith (502) 241-0361; Dot Ramsey-Patterson (502) 253-1345 or Earl Meyers (502) 452-1996.

Bryan Fox, former leader of End Of Me, has decided to take a crack at the Nashville country market. He connected up with Malcolm Springer (Full Devil Jacket, Spike 1000, Liquid Gang) and has recorded a project's worth of songs, some of which he sent along. I'd say he's made the transition okay. Now to await the complete CD.

• The 2006 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is now accepting submissions. Surf over to http://www.songwritingcompetition.com for all the details.
