Rashers Rule

To make a complete day and night check out The Rashers at Molly Malone's on Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12. Behind the hard-driving banjo licks of John Woodard is some solid musicianship on fiddle, mandolin and guitars. Rock is keen on these lads. They have an attitude, a groove. Go there.

Glasgow Highland Games

Find a way to get to Barren River State Park on June 3-6. The festivities begin with a Beach Party with the awesome Seven Nations Celtic rock group. Pipe bands, Highland dancers and much, much more will be on hand for the weekend. Call the Celtic Centre for additional details- 897-9050. Rock NEVER misses this one.

Louisville Pipe Band

Come on down to Barren River State Park and cheer for the Louisville Pipe Band, which presents the largest pipe band presence in the Midwest. A fine crop of young pipers and drummers constitute the Grade 5 band and the cream of River City has collaborated with Nashville for a Grade 4 band (The "L&N Pipe Band"). Come on down Saturday June 5. The solo piping and drumming begins at 9 a.m. The massed bands pipe in the official opening at noon and pipe band competitions follow shortly thereafter.

John Wesley Harding

Thanks to our friend Marty Rosen, Rock learned that the author of "gangsta folk" was performing at the Rudyard Kipling last weekend. I went solely to hear his renditions of the great Welsh singer, Nic Jones', songs. It was wonderful and I came away a new fan of JWH. I now understand why he loves (as do I) Nic Jones and why Harding is a modern descendant of Jones' music. Thank you Marty. Thank you Rudyard Kipling, for a world class musical experience.
