Celtic Corner

March is the month for all you fans of Irish music. Here's a run down of where you can find your favorite bands.

Galloglas

Gallogas will be at the Whole Foods Market on Shelbyville Road on Saturday, March 13, from 1-4 p.m. If you haven't checked out Louisville's newest foodie hangout, mark this on your calendar. They will be performing on the Homefront Radio Show on Saturday March 13 at 7:30 p.m.. If you've never been to a Homefront concert, you are missing one of Louisville's best live music experiences. On "the day" itself, Wednesday March 17, Galloglas will be at Molly Malone's (approximately) from 12-2:30 p.m. (the time was still being confirmed at press time) and at the Irish Rover that same night at 6-9 p.m. The lovely tunes of Galloglas may also show up at O'Shea's as well.

Cloigheann

Here's what the phenomenal musicians of Cloigheann have planned for their St. Pat's Day - they will be at the Hayfield Montessori School 9 -10 a.m., then off to the Irish Rover 11-2 p.m. entertaining the lunch crowd and the late night revelers can catch them at Molly Malone's 10 p.m. -1 am.

Silverwood

For those of you working downtown, you can enjoy live Celtic music as well. Just go to the lobby of the National City Tower at 5th and Main from 11:30-1:30 p.m. and enjoy the music of Silverwood.

The Pail

Also performing at Molly Malone's on St. Pat's from 3-6 p.m. will be The Pail. They'll be back the following weekend on Saturday March 20 from 7-10 p.m..

Eileen Ivers at the Center

A show not to be missed will be on Friday, March 19, 8 p.m. at the Bomhard Theater. That's when the most awarded musician in the history of the All-Ireland competitions, Eileen Ivers, will be performing. Dubbed the "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin" by The New York Times she brings a style and fire to fiddling unlike any other artist.

The Louisville Orchestra Joins the Celebration

On Thursday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m., at the Brown Theatre Bob Bernhardt (or "Uncle Bob" as we called him back in our music schools days) and the Louisville Orchestra salute the Emerald Isle, replete with everything from jigs to "Danny Boy," musicians from the Louisville Pipe Band and even some Irish traditional dancers. For our friends on the sunny side of the river, the orchestra will repeat the concert on Saturday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ogle Center at IU Southeast.

Celebrate St. Pat's by supporting our local musicians. The top spots to celebrate will no doubt be Molly Malone's, Kitty O'Kirwans and the Irish Rover. See you there and Céad Míle Fáilte!
