The Lexington Scene
By Steve Nall

Hello music fans and welcome to the latest installment of the Lexington Scene. This month, I want to let you in on a not-so-well-kept-secret of the Lexington music scene. His name is Ron Harris and his band is The Knott Brothers. They play a mixture of classic rock and some seriously high-energy blues and Ron leads the band like the professional he is. Ron got his first guitar at age six and by the time he reached the ripe old age of 12, he was making money from his craft at parties and weddings. Skip up to the present day and Ron's accomplishments only continue to amaze. He has toured to world, playing concerts in Brazil, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Norway, among others. Ron has even taken the blues to Mainland China! On top of all that, Ron has performed in all fifty states, frequently playing the Chicago Blues Fest, Jazz Fest in New Orleans and The San Francisco Blues Fest. He regularly can be seen at B.B. Kings blues club in Memphis, TN as well. And if all that isn't enough for you, Ron has had the honor of having a sandwich named for him at The Jazzman Café in Winchester KY. He's right beside legends B.B. King and Billie Holiday. In short, this man and his band get around like no other in the area.

Adding to this impressive list of accomplishments, Ron has worked with such acclaimed artists as Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Curtis T. Judd and has released albums on several record labels including Alligator, Polygram and Razor & Tie.

The Knott Brothers Band includes Chris Collins on drums, vocals, guitar and piano and Richard Mattingly on bass guitar and vocals as well as Ron leading the way on guitar and main vocals. The band's enthusiasm for the music and their ability to get the crowd moving, as well as Ron's guitar pyrotechnics (he's been know to play with his teeth and behind his head!) always insure that a Knott Brothers gig is not only entertaining to the ears but to the eyes as well.

The band plays blues clubs in Louisville and Lexington regularly, so check your local papers and music magazines for dates and places to catch Ron Harris and The Knott Brothers. I'll be posting some future dates for the band in next month's column. If you are interested in booking the band or just want some more information, you can reach them at 859-299-2530.

Well, that's it for this month. Check back next time for more on Lexington and the bands that make up the scene.
