Steve Yocum

Name: My name is Steve Yocum.

Age: 48 Years old.

Instrument: Vocals/guitar. I have been into music my whole life but never got around to picking up the guitar ‘till after college in my early/mid 20's, When I finally had the time and patience to learn. As far as singing, I have been doing that since 3rd grade. That has always come easy to me. I was a very shy kid back in those days so I never sang in front of others till later in life.

Band/Former Bands: After practicing guitar for a handful of years, I joined my first real band in my late 20's. It was a Rock cover band called Loud House. I learned a lot from that project because the other members were great players and veterans to the scene. After that band, I was in projects called Spin Cycle and Sinthetic. In the early 2000's Powderburn formed and we had to change the name a few years later (A Metal Band from Austin TX was going to sue us over the name) to Redline, which is still going to this day. I played guitar in this band till 2009 and then I eventually took over the lead vocal position. I did a lot of background vocals in all the former bands and even sang a couple through the night, but this was the first time singing for 3 hours at a time. It was dcary at first but it was something that I always wanted to do since I was 7 years old. I also sing for 3 Strange Days and I am involved in an original Rock/Metal band called Dystorchestra. We are in the works of getting the first album completed. I still play guitar at my house and every now and then play a song or 2 live with my guitar players rig.

How long on instrument: A long time!

Equipment: My favorite setup is a Les Paul through a 70's Marshall Halfstack. Like every guitar player, you search for your tone and I went through a lot of different amps, pickups, cabs, and guitars over the years but a Les Paul and a good old Marshall is hard to beat for me. When I want something a bit more heavy in tone, I can dig a Soldano or old Peavey 5150.

Influences: I was influenced by many different artists growing up. My parents listened to everything so I was brought up on Rock, Motown, Country, and Blues. I have lots of influences but a few that come to mind are Iommi, Page, Hendrix, and Angus and Malcolm Young. Vocalists would be Dio, Halford, Staley, and Plant. Too many to list.

My first gig: My first show was a Halloween Bash with a couple other bands. You never forget the first one.

Hobbies: As far as hobbies, I like sports, riding motorcycles, and listening to new bands.

Favorite movies: Favorite movies would be Dazed and Confused, Fast times at Ridgemont High, Forest Gump, and Office Space.

Favorite food: Seafood!

Favorite place: Favorite place would be on stage and Destin, Florida.

Favorite sports or team: Anything UK, San Francisco 49ers, and the Boston Celtics.

What I'm listening to nowadays: Most of the stuff I listen to nowadays is whatever cover songs I need to learn.

Coolest thing I've done: As far as the coolest thing I have done, nothing really pops into my mind at the moment. Maybe I'm just not that cool of a person.

Most embarrassing moment: There are plenty of those. One would be forgetting the lyrics to a song that I have sang a 1000 times live. Another would be starting a song off in the wrong key. Whoops!!! That's why it's called live music, Right? Besides, Hendrix did that live as well. I have the video to prove it.

Bad Habits: None. I'm good!

What was your first concert ever: My first concert was seeing Ozzy. I'm pretty sure it was a good one.

If you could meet a Rockstar ( past or present ), who would it be, and why: As far as meeting a Rockstar, I would like to hangout with Jimmy Page for a day. The stories he could tell.

Who do you love: My family for putting up with me and letting me live my passion for music. Thanks for featuring me. I'm honored. Louisville has always had a great music scene and I am proud to be a part of it. So many great musicians past and present out there. Keep Rocking!!!
