News From the Pit
By Eddy Metal

What a roller coaster month for me! Jesus what a turdride! My mother came one hair from having a freakin' heart attack (she is okay, thank god, after a short hospital visit, but now needs to follow a strict diet, which I doubt she will) and I got booted out of the new band I was in. And, if you follow me on FB, you will have seen that me and my GF broke up. The band thing wasn't so bad, but the Mother & GF thing hurt. My GF left her husband two-and-a – half years ago for me, and nowhe is pretty much bedridden and dying of COPD, and she feels terrible having abandoned him. To be honest, I feel terrible for taking dude's wife in the first place. I swear I have never messed with a married woman before, in all these years of dating! It bothers me. But I've known her since I've been 18 (long before him) , and she has always loved me, so technically, I was there first. I believe a woman should follow her own heart and do what makes her happy, and not listen to anyone else. She had a very tough choice to make, and she made it. I told her if she wanted to go take care of him then she should, but I think it's a huge mistake because I love her. I said very clearly “Choose what YOU want to do.” Do not let someone manipulate you into doing something you will regret.

We are back together.

Relationships are difficult. No one is perfect. We all mess up. She told a lie and went and visited her former husband in the hospital. In the grand scheme of everything that’s not so horrible, I have decided to forgive (that is soooo not me). She has, after all, forgiven me for much much worse. Just remember, people. Never give up on the one you love. Because spending the rest of your life without the one you love-is the worst fate you could have.

Life IS risk. If you don't play, you don't win.

But if she lies again, I'll boot her ass out again! J/k babe!

It's Derby time! Time for all kinds of louevil Derby fun – shows, parties, betting, horses, crowds, drinking, dressing up, getting drunk, hanging with friends, yakking, hangovers, etcetera, etcetera. We are going to the Derby this year since our plans got rained out last year. I'm stoked and ready to party my ass off!

The weather is going to be amazing and I'm thinking it will be a record crowd. The Derby is so much fun! I was telling my cousin in Illinois about it and he couldn't comprehend half a million partiers in one spot. I was like “C’mon down, dawg!”

Thunder Over Louisville was pretty massive this year; not that I actually went and battled traffic for hours, but I saw it safely from my freaking house! That shit was waaaay up there above the city. I've had some bad experiences going to Derby events downtown so I usually avoid the nonsense. Once I saw a guy get thrown out of a speeding car and the tire ran over the guy’s head. It was pretty crazy. Then another time a friend and I got jumped by three a-holes who sucker-punched my friend, then I tried to run over them in my Camaro and they dove out of the road headfirst. I was crazy and supper pissed! Then another time I got into it with some guy at the Chow Wagon and it got ugly fast. I karate kicked that MF hard, but he got a good punch in, as well. Crazy times! Fun times, too! I was going to go to Trixie's to see Udo Dirkschneider, and was dressed to kill, but it was raining like a MF, so much that you could barely see, so we ended up not making it to the show. I really wanted to see Udo,, too! Damn rain.

Well, here is an absolute first for me – I got kicked out of the new band I just joined. I had never joined a band in my life, or been a hired gun, ever. I have always formed my own bands/projects and written my own stuff, and recruited people I respected to join. I'm not going to go into it in detail or run my piehole, as I am not into high-school drama. I will merely say it was an invalid reason, and non musical in nature. It's a shame, because I liked jamming with those guyt, but truthfully, it probably would have happened either way. There were a few issues with practice times, scheduling shows, musical direction, and agreed stipulations upon my joining that were broken. Honestly, I reckon I didn't have enough time to fully devote to it. And at the time I was working so much, and was exhausted trying to do SWP, but I did it because I enjoyed it. It's true I'm not easy to work with musically. I am one MF who is set in his ways. And yes, I can act like a pain in the ass when it comes to band stuff like I've had to deal with at times over the years. So, yeah, I kinda run a tight ship when it comes to playing in a band live. I take that shit VERY seriously. Maybe even too seriously! It's all good though. I wish those guys the best and will support them always. At least the guy who replaced me is a bad mofo on guitar, and someone whom I have respected and liked, and is a local music inspiration to me. I couldn't have asked for a better or more talented dude to replace me.

I have my band YEAR OF THE GUN still rockin' after 9 years, so I'll be fine. Come see us at Diamond Concert Hall on Sat June 30 at The Borkar Make Memories Fest! It promises to be a huge show, and I cannot wait to rock! And unleash our new song that our newest member Tyler “young guns” Siders wrote.

I will be attending many more shows now that I'm gonna be back on 8-hour shifts. So get ready for those reviews ‘n' pics! I went and saw TARCBus (see review below) and I went to hang out at Louie The Local Guy's new local music spot! The Paddock Pub! 120 feet from my house!

Big news: Marilyn Manson is coming, a brand new massive bar opened called The Boubon Hall, and Louder Than Life now is a three-day event! Those LTL people are sooo slick, it ain't even funny. Putting Boubon & Beyond before LTL, and sharing the sound systems! Brilliant.

I always have fun there, and can't wait to hear who they have lined up for us this year! Heck, Boubon & Beyond sounds cool, too! It's a much better lineup than last year! I might have to cover that event, too!

Good Things!

This month hasn't been all bad. I got a FAT raise at work and just found out it will be a much easier summer than last year, I have more money than I haveever had, I'm almost out of debt, and we will be taking a vacation sometime in the next few months! Having trouble deciding though, Cali, Vegas, Florida? Hmmmmmnnnn. I'll figure it out soon.

So with the bad also comes some good.

Well, that's it for me this Derby edition. Please be careful partying for Derby! Watch your ass partying downtown, don't drive drunk, and stay outta trouble! Don't end up like me 28 years ago: in jail for carrying beer on Central Ave! MF'ers carrying around kegs in shopping carts, but they wanna pick on me for having a mere teeny weeny 12-pack? Retarded. I think it was the long hair. And the cop was a d**k.

Peace, and thanks again for your support and hope regarding getting my heart broken.

I love you bastages, and I will be seeing you soon!

The Metal Grapevine

New Venue – The Bourbon Hall:

We got a new badass venue! Located on 116 West Jefferson Street downtown. This place is supposedly twice the size of The Mercury Ballroom! And with an imapressive sound system to boot! It's where Coyote's was; it has the same front doors. I was going to go down there and get some pics and check the place out on a guided tour, but time would not allow before deadline, but no worries, I'm sure I will be down there soon enough with camera in hand to cover every sweet event that comes through. I'll be keeping you informed on whats going on there from now on! So always come here for all the juicy goodies n' tidbits!

They are having a sweet Derby Eve Bash with Thunderstruck (the AC/DC Tribute) this Friday night! So I might go check the place out just to let you know how it was! And then DERBY Saturday!!! YES!

Judas Priest/ Deep Purple Coming To Riverbend On August 21:

Jesus Palomino, what a lineup. I've never seen DP and Priest is my all-time favorite band. I gotta go to this. I will miss Glenn if he can't make it to this show, but I still gotta support the juggernaut that is Priest.

Marylyn Manson Coming To Louevil:

Sunday, August 5 at Louisville Palace. Never was a fan, but I'll prob go just to see him play for the first time! Fellas, there will be lots of cute goth ladies there. Here's some live Manson for ya.

Bourbon & Beyond Lineup:

Located at Champions Park, just like Louder Than Life, is Bourbon & Beyond, another festival that sounds like a lot of fun. It's on Saturday, Sept 22 and Sunday, Sept 23. Last year wasn't really my style of music, but this year looks pretty darn good! Friday, it's Brian Setzer’s Rockabilly Riot, John Mayer, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow & others. Saturday features Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters w/ Sting, Blackberry Smoke, Gov't Mule, Counting Crows & others. I really may have to cover this!! Yum, thinking about the food!!

Louder Than Life 2018 Is Three Days Now:

Yup, three days of music! Holy shit. HTF am I going to be able to walk that much for three days? Two days as a photographer going from stage to stage about killed my ass, let alone three! Still no word on who is playing or when it will be released. I'll let you know when I know! Three days or not, I'll be there for sure! I ain't missing that epic shit! Rumors are swirling about the bands, I've heard rumors of Tool & NIN, but you never know if they are true! We will see soon!

Metallica Is Coming To Louisville – In 2019:

Yup, it's true, March 9 at The Yum Center in 2019. My dumbass saw the announcement and without thinking thought it was this March. Shit, that's a long way off! I might be dead by then. One of the band members might be dead. Well, this should be pretty frickin' cool when it finally comes down. Knowing my luck, I'll plug the crap outta it for over a year and get the flu the night before the show in 2019. This will be a hot ticket when it happens, so you might want to secure your tickets when they finally go on sale. It's been a few years since I've seen them. Here is a bit of Louisville Rock History for ya! I saw them in 1986 at Cardinal Stadium with Ozzy. And get this – Metallica got booed horribly. Nobody knew who they were, except me. And the crowd was all worked up for Ozzy. They knew not what they did

Black Stone Cherry Coming To Mercury Ballroom On May 25:

Kentucky boys made good, they are heading back this way in May! First show ever at Mercury Ballroom, I think! And with them are their southern Kentucky neighbors Luther. Should be a great show, and sold out, so don't miss this!

Mushroomhead Coming On May 6 At Trixie's:

An after-Derby bash to not miss. This will sell out, so get yer tix asap.

Slayer Farewell Tour Stops In Cinci On June 6!!!

Yes, it's true. Slayer is bidding farewell. But before they ride off into the sunset, they want to melt your faces off with one hell of a lineup at Riverbend in Cincinatti on Wednesday, June 6. I love this venue! And the peeps there always treated me like gold. I can't wait for this lineup. Testament, Anthrax,Behemoth and Slayer on one bill? Count me in!! I will be definitely be putting in to cover this one! Slayer killed at Louder Than Life a few years ago, and I'm sure they will again in 2018. Get your tickets ASAP!

Here is Slayer on The Tonight Show!

Jefferson Tarc Bus Reunion @ Mercury Ballroom Review:

Pics by Ashley Murphy & Eddy Metal. I was a hot mess. Me and my Gf just broke up and I needed to get out and try to have some fun. And I did. I kinda knew I'd have fun at this one. First off, I know all those guys and most of the people they know. It's one big dysfunctional party family. Good times. These guys got back together for one night only of good ole fashioned Louisville rock. Skilled veterans all, TARC Bus has played some sweet shows in their day, and this one was no different. The place was packed, and it was a lively crowd. I knew all kinds of people, and loved seeing old friends and acquaintances. I decided to go last minute so I didn't even have a ticket, but I always get in at The Merc so I just went anyways. They take care of me pretty good there. I got in, and a new security guard didn't know me so he was giving me shit about getting pictures. I was like “Dude, I have covered maybe 40 or 50 shows at the Merc.” TARCBus bassist Dave Moody came over and remedied the situation, so I had my photo pass. Thank you, sir.

The band roared through classics ranging from newer to classic to 80's rock. Tunes like “Blitzkreig Bop,” “Panama,” “Round And Round,” “Rebel Yell,” “Let's Go Crazy,” and “Living On A Prayer.” And they played well. Dave is a character for sure. Guitarist Ronnie Watchmaker was ripping up the awesome Charvel guitar I sold him a few weeks ago, literally! He broke the whammy bar off the friggin guitar! I've never even heard of that. Ha! Well, he waaaas kinda in a zone. I know dude, I love playing there, too! The sound you get when you hit a powerful guitar chord playing the Merc is BADASS. No doubt. By the look on Ronnie’s face, you could tell he was happy. They all were.

Vocalist Steven Clark was performing well in his trademark cowboy hat. That guy could always sing. I remember one time watching him sing Zeppelin's “The Immigrant Song” with his old band Horseshoes & Handgrenades at The Toy Tiger long ago, and thinking to myself “Jesus, this MF can sing!” He nailed theballs in a vice high notes with ease.

I remember the first time I met Steve. I was a kid sneaking into the Toy Tiger who had drunk way too much, so I sat there and food and booze starts to come up the neck, so I run to the bathroom full speed praying I make it to the toilet. Well, I burst in, with bulged cheeks, and there stands Steve looking at me, worried. I spewed forth tremendously, like the Excorsist! One big long line of yak. Steve was horrified with his mouth open, frozen. The yak flew through the air right past Steve! The look on his face. He said “Ewwwwwww!!” and ran out the door. Sorry, Steve. Not a good introduction at all, but at least I didn't hit you with it. Ahhh, the old Toy Tiger days. Good times, and these guys are veterans of that era. A good era. The band tonight was tight. The crowd lively. And the booze was flowing. It was the first drink I'd had in a good while and it tasted good. I had fun and TARCbus cheered me up a little. I went home alone and passed out – but I didn't yak.

P.S. Two Pump Chump rocked out as well, too! The crowd was entertained! Good dudes, those guys!

Texas Hippie Coalition Returns To Trixie's On May 3:

I like this band! Great guys too.

Louie The Local Guy To Book At Paddock Pub?

So, Louie hits me up on Facebook and says he is having a show 125 feet from my house, and to drop by. Louie has a new venue! This could be cool actually. But MF'ers would have to behave for this to work. And keep the guitars down a notch or two level-wise. The location is iffy because there are houses right there! Forty feet away! They won't be able to deal I'm thinking. We bands just won't be able to fully unleash our amps. That's not a problem, unless you are an asshole and want to f**k it up for everyone. It's simple, behave and compromise and all will be well. Look for showdates very soon, Louie says!
