Musical Opportunities

Rusty May, L.A.S.C. member and fiddline half of the former dynamic duo NoZmo King, now residing in Canada, says her friend Kevin Erwin is still seeking country songs to include on his upcoming album. L.A.S.C. members may recall that Rusty asked for material some months ago for Erwin. Well, Rusty said that Erwin received a number of songs, some good, and some not exactly suited to the artist. Irwin wants to give us another try, so if you have a good country song, send it along to: Kevin Erwin, c/o Chris Sillers, Music Unlimited, 4935 Cordova Bay Road, Victoria, B.C., Canada V8Y2K1.

Missing Link Music, an international cassette mail order service, is now accepting tapes for their 1990 catalog. MLM currently lists over 200 tapes from small labels, independent artists, and home recording artists.

Each tape is reviewed, and all musical styles are welcome. The deadline for tape submissions is September 30, 1989. For listing information, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Missing Link Music, 6920 Roosevelt Way NE, #328, Seattle, WA 98115.

If you would like to receive the 1989 Missing Link catalog, send $1.00 to the above address.

MLM operates on a consignment basis, and since artist commissions are determined individually, they suggest that you write for the initial listing information early.

From Highway Star International, 301 Hubbard Dr., Suite 428, Henderson, TX 75652, comes word that Dow Jones and the Nashville Stock Exchange is looking for "straight up country songs, the type currently being recorded by Ricky Van Shelton, Randy Travis, Vern Gosdin, etc." for his upcoming album. According to Highway Star, Dow has toured in nine countries and is currently performing at a large resort in the British Virgin Islands. Upon his return they "hope to have enough songs selected to start work on his new album before he leaves back out the last of July."

Highway Star is also interested in "a couple up-tempo love songs, something with an unusual twist for a young female."

Allagash Country Records / Richard E. Gowell Music - BMI writes that they are looking for great country material and some pop material also. They accept cassettes with a maximum of four songs with lyric sheets. They employ a one-year reversion clause in their songwriter contracts and prefer to receive studio demos. They will report back within one month provided an SASE is enclosed. They indicate that they plug songs in Nashville, Muscle Shoals and L.A. Their address is 45 Seventh Street, Auburn, Maine 04210.

Affiliated Publisher, Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. will be presenting their Second Annual Songwriter's Pro-Am "Songfest '89" on July 16, 17 and 18 at St. Simons Island, Georgia. Country Breeze Music and Record Production in Kansas City, Kansas is looking for new country and gospel songs to publish. Country Breeze's Ed Morgan says that the need for gospel songs is great since "I have an artist with the #6 gospel song on the independent gospel chart." Morgan indicates that he will listen to no more than five songs per cassette with lyric sheets and return postage. Additionally, he is looking for new country and gospel artists for his Country Breeze label. Any interested artist should send a short bio, recent photo and three of their best songs for review. The address is 4718 Vista, Kansas City, Kansas 66106.
