Kentucky Music Week

If you love red-hot weather, then you're glad that July is here. And if you love good music. .. then you're glad that July is here.

On July 28, 29 and 30, the l4th Annual Kentucky Music Weekend will bring together at the Iroquois Amphitheater the finest performers of Kentucky traditional music.

Following on its heels, The 5th Annual Kentucky Music Week will be held at Bellarmine College, starting on July 31 and continuing through August 4. Participants will be offered a full five days of instruction in approximately 15 arts.

The Kentucky Music Weekend evening concerts present an anthology of native music including early music from the British Isles, century-old banjo tunes, popular radio artists of the '30s and modern songwriter-performers reflecting the heritage of the mountains and rivers so essential to the development of our culture

The afternoons offer "Close-Up" Concerts, Workshops (including harmony singing, ballads, banjo, dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, Women In Traditional Music, fiddle, storytelling), Old-Time Street Dances and much, much more!.

One of the highlights of the Kentucky Music Weekend for the past five years has been the Iroquois Summer Arts and Crafts Festival (I.S.A.A.C.) a high-quality, juried crafts festival specializing in unique crafts. Over 50 booths dot the tree-lined area around the Amphitheater where craftspeople demonstrate the techniques used to create their works. Some of the region's finest dulcimer and hammered dulcimer builders will also be on hand.

A variety of craft classes will be offered to the public during the weekend. Craft items will be offered for sale during the festival.

I.S.A.A.C. is free to the public and will be held on Saturday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 30, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Additional information can be had by writing to Ms. Sandy Nipp, 3519 Burba Road, New Haven, Ky. 40051.

The 5th Annual Kentucky Music Week, held at Bellarmine College, offers a full five days of instruction in approximately 15 arts, from dulcimer and hammered dulcimer playing and building to ballad singing and pottery, plus evening activities. Instructors are the top names in their fields; many are past Kentucky Music Weekend performers.

Kentucky Music Week will begin with registration during Kentucky Music Weekend at the Information Booth, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. both Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30. After 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, registration will take place at Bellarmine College, Newburg Road, Louisville, Ky.
