Louisville Orchestra Opens 66th Season with "FanFara"

They call it "Fanfara" but however you refer to it, the opening concert of the Louisville Orchestra was well received. Maestro Segal named this "season, coming to America ... to emphasize the centrality of America to some of the greatest and most influential music that has been created during the 19th and 20th centuries." from Audience Magazine, September, 2002.

The program opened with George Gershwin's tone poem, "An American in Paris," followed by Mozart's 41st Symphony and Peter Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1. Horatio Gutierrez was scheduled to have been the soloist but illness intervened. The orchestra lined up Alexander Korsantiya as a substitute and he gave an electrifying and generously applauded interpretation of the final number.
