Irving Berlin

1888-1989

He wrote more than 1,500 songs, including "White Christmas" and "Easter Parade," and he died in his sleep at the ripe old age of 101!

Irving Berlin never learned to read or. write music and he could play only in the key of F sharp, yet he wrote some of the most beloved songs of all times.

Berlin has been quoted as saying that there are only six tunes in the world. I would not presume to argue with Mr. Berlin, but it takes some kind of talent to turn six tunes into 1,500 songs of the caliber he wrote.

According to an article in the September 23 edition of The Courier-Journal, when someone admired one of his melodies, Berlin was quick to say: "I like it, too. I've used it lots of times."

Other famous Berlin songs include:

"Cheek to Cheek"

"Alexander's Ragtime Band"

"Always"

"Remember"

"Blue Skies"

"Puttin' On the Ritz"

"Aa Pretty Girl Is Like as Melody"

"What'll I Do?"

"How Deep Is the Ocean"

"God Bless America"

"Heat Wave'

There's' No Business Like Show Business

Irving Berlin will live forever through his songs. Thank you for your wonderful legacy, Mr. Berlin.
