"Run For the Royalties Seminar Scheduled

The second annual L.A.S.C Seminar / Trade Show / Awards Banquet / Showcase is scheduled for November 18, 1989. The theme for this year's Seminar is "Run For the Royalties," in keeping with the spirit of the city. The Seminar promises to be bigger and better than last year's very successful "This Business Of Music."

The Seminar will be held at the Hurstbourne Hotel and Conference Center, 9700 Bluegrass Parkway, the same site as last year's meeting. However, the activities will be moved to the larger Conference Center adjacent to the rear of the hotel, where there are larger and more meeting rooms.

Nashville Music. Business Personalities to attend Seminar

As of press time, the lineups for the panelists include the following representatives from the three performing rights organizations: John Briggs, ASCAP; Kurt Denny, BM1; and Tom Casey, SESAC.

In addition, the new Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, Pat Huber, will be at the Seminar. NSAI members are encouraged to come and meet with her. A scheduled room will be available..

Many music publishers' representatives are scheduled to be in attendance. Songwriters planning to come to the Seminar are urged to bring their best hit tunes, on cassettes and with lyric sheets.

Audio pioneer and legend Bill Porter, who was Elvis Presley's engineer for many years and whose engineering credits read like a twenty-year list of number one hits, will present an hour-and-a-haIf "History of Rock 'N' Roll" from the point of view of a man who made a lot of it. His portion of the program is currently scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Contest Winners To Be Announced

The winners of the Songwriting Competition '89 will be announced at the Awards Banquet. This includes the fourteen category winners as well as the Grand Prize winner, who will receive a $500 prize.

The Co-op has lined up a number of great prizes to be given away at the Banquet, including a Yamaha 4-track cassette recorder, courtesy of Yamaha and Mom's Music, an acoustic Epiphone Dreadnaught Model PR 350S guitar (for which you must be present and have entered the contest to be eligible), courtesy of Willis Music, a $250 hot air balloon ride, courtesy Hot Air Promotions, a silk Gibson road jacket, plus more!

(The Epiphone. guitar was originally listed as a different instrument. Circumstances beyond the control of the L.A.S.C. necessitated the change.)

Trade Show

There will be a Trade Show room at the Seminar, with booths by local studios and music stores, fas well as the Musician's Union and a national songwriting contest. The Trade Room will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and is open to the general public.

Hotel Registration

Hotel Rooms at the Hurstbourne Hotel and Conference Center, 97O0 Bluegrass Parkway, Louisville, KY 40299 may be reserved by calling (502) 491-4830. The group rate is $45. Be sure to tell the clerk that you will be attending the L.A.S.C. Seminar.

For those who come in on Friday, there will be an informal "guitar pull" in the hospitality suite. Check with the desk.

For additional information and a registration form, please check page 2 of this issue of Louisville Music News. If you have any other questions, please call (502) 239-9004.

There'll be a lot to see, hear and do at the "Run For the Royalties," plus there will be opportunities not available outside of Nashville. Don't miss it!

Songwriter Showcase

The end of the evening will feature a Songwriters' Showcase, starting at 9 p.m., with performances by many members of the L.A.S.C., who will be showing off their best songs.

The middle set will have "Music Man" Charlie Walls playing backup for several members. Charlie was one of the top ten finalists in this year's Kentucky Fried Chicken Songwriting Contest and will be standing by to hear if his "Two Story House" will be one of the songs to be recorded by the Bellamy Brothers. Charlie was the grand prize winner in the L.A.S.C.'s Songwriting Competition '88.

The closing set will feature David Wilcox, talented A&M recording artist, who is getting good airplay on his "Eye Of The Hurricane." Stay tuned for additional information.
