Appalshop Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Appalshop, the renowned Whitesburg, Kentucky-based arts and education center brought a sampling of its remarkable work to the Kentucky Center for the Arts during the week of September 30 through October 7.

From Storytelling & Music on September 30 through the play "Leaving Egypt" on October 7, the Kentucky Center offered a generous sampling of the kinds of events that have endeared Appalshop to not only the region, but to rural and urban areas throughout the world.

Other anniversary events are scheduled to take place in Washington, D. C., New York, London and in mining towns in rural Wales.

Appalshop preserves the heritage of the Appalachian region and shares its discoveries with the world through:

Appalshop Films

Headwaters Television

June Appal Recordings

Roadside Theater

The Appalshop Center

WMMT-FM Radio

The weeklong event was brought to Louisville with the suppport of the Greater Louisville Fund for the Arts. It was the first event by Appalshop to appear in the city.

Congratulation, Appalshop, and we wish you continued success for many years to come.
