January Showcase

The first Songwriter Showcase of the Nineties will be held on January 6 at 9 p.m. at The Rudyard Kipling Restaurant, 422 West Oak Street, Louisville.

Scheduled to perform are two new acts and two that have appeared at least once on past showcases. The rookies, who do not lack for talent, are the Lyrical Lords, a rap group and C. Lynn Riffle, a fine singer and keyboard and piano player.

The Lyrical Lords (Damon Long and Garland Thomas) won the rap category of the L.A.S.C.'s recent Songwriting Competition '89 with their original "Social Conscience," and are looking forward to introducing their audience to other rap numbers they have written.

Lynn has appeared on the Co-op's Monday-night open stage once or twice and performed a couple of numbers on the Seminar Showcase on November 19, but January 6 will be her debut on the monthly showcase.

Making return appearances will be Eddie Burch (don't know if he'll be bringing one or both of his brothers to share the stage with him) and Pen Bogert, who excels at slide guitar, as well as at singing" and songwriting.

Make plans now to hear these talented musicians. You'll be doing yourself and the L.A.S.C. a favor;
