Bellarmine College Music Preparatory Program

The Music Preparatory Program at Bellarmine College is a Continuing Education program that offers instruction to students of all ages. The program, headed by Music Department Chairman Dr. Lee Bash, can lead to a Bachelor of Arts in Music or may be utilized as an ongoing, a non-credit training program, available to the beginner as well as to the more advanced student.

Dr. Bash believes that music education should be demand-oriented, tailored to suit the wishes and needs of the student. He emphasizes that he considers the program to be a service department, with individual attention a very important part of the program.

Private instruction is provided in both classical and popular music styles. Students may elect to study piano, acoustic or electric guitar, violin, voice, bass, trumpet, theory, improvisation, trombone, flute, clarinet, all saxophones and percussion.

Large classes are available in piano, voice, theory, improvisation and guitar whenever a minimum of four students is enrolled.

Performance opportunities are available through participation in guitar ensembles, show choir, jazz groups, concert choir, brass ensembles and small chamber ensembles. The performance groups have been quite successful. One of the Bellarmine jazz trios made a trip to the Montreaux Jazz Festival and another is tentatively scheduled.

Lesson hours are flexible, based on the mutual availability of the teacher and student. All lessons and ensembles offered use the regular Music Department instructors.

Tuition for the Spring and Fall Semesters is $160 for fourteen thirty minute private lessons. Ensemble and large class lessons are $80 for fourteen sixty minute classes per semester.

In the Summer Semester, ten thirty minute private lessons are $115. Tuition for guitar ensemble and/or jazz groups is $57 for ten sixty minute classes.
