Songwriting Competition '90

The Louisville Area Songwriters' Cooperative announces Songwriting Competition '90. This year's contest includes an expanded categories list, plus some very exciting prizes. Please read the rules carefully before entering.

THE PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded at the Awards Banquet on November 3, 1990. There are two levels of prizes:

Category Winners

In each category, one winner will be selected. The winner in each category will receive a $50 prize. In addition, the ten category-winning songs will be eligible to compete for the final prizes.

$1000 Grand Prize
$250 Second Place
$100 Third Place

One song from among the ten category finalists will receive a $1000 Grand Prize. There is a second-place prize of $250, and a third-place prize of $100.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS

Category finalists will be notified by September 30, 1990. Winners in each category and the winners of the Grand Prize, Second and Third Place will be announced at the Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 3, 1990. The Banquet will be held in conjunction with the Songwriting Seminar and Trade Show at the Holiday Inn, 2nd and Broadway, Louisville, Ky. 40202.

JUDGING

Judging will be handled in the following way: preliminary judging will be by non-participating board members of the LASC, resulting in ten finalists in each category. These ten finalists will be given to a three-person panel of judges knowledgeable in the given category to select the winning song in the category. Judges will grade by scoresheet.

In the event that there are not enough entries in any given category, there will be fewer finalists in that category. The Board also retains the right to select more than ten finalists per category, at its discretion.

Grand Prize Judges

The ten category-winning songs will be judged by a panel composed of individuals who work for the three performing rights organizations. These judges are:

Kurt Denny

Assoc. Director Writer / Publisher Relations, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).

John Briggs

Regional Membership Director, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

Tom Casey

The Society of European Stage Authors and Composers (SESAC).
