WGZB has jumped to fill the hole in the FM market for urban contemporary music, according to station spokesman Rod Burbridge.

On the air since April 16, the station is aimed at the 18-49 age listeners interested in urban contemporary.

Air personalities include Program Director Del Spencer, who has twice been named Urban Contemporary PD of the Year by Radio and Records. Spencer holds down the morning show with Dawn G.

The 10-to-3 midday slot is covered by Tim Jherad, while Tom Holiday, from Lexington, has the drive-time 3-to-7 slot. Seven to midnight is handled by Jennifer Spangler from Boston. The late-night shift is rotated.

The station's offices are located in the Cosmopolitan Building, 981 S. Third, Suite 400, Louisville, Ky. 40203.

The request and contest line number is 571-2965. The regular office number is 581-9798.

The new adult contemporary station running the billboard ads and TV spots all over town is WZKS, otherwise known as KISS 104. The station went on the air July 5, 1990, at 8:00 am, with morning man Frosty Stillwell.

Vice President Buddy Scott says the station is taking aim at the 18- to 49-year olds, playing a mix of contemporary, recent oldies and classic rock tunes.

The station is on-air 24 hours. Air personalities include some who are familiar locally, including Tom Kennedy, who was with WKLO. Kennedy is handling the 2-6 afternoon slot. David Michaels, formerly with WJYL, is riding herd on the 6-10 p.m. shift.

Besides Stillwell, who hails from Grand Rapids, Iowa, Lola Lee, formerly with the WDJX morning show, will take the morning drive-time slot. Middays it's Joe Kelly from Bloomington, Indiana. The remaining shifts are currently being covered by part-time staff, until the positions can be filled.

According to the C-J, program director George Lindsey is leaving WLSY to be a partner and general manager at a couple of stations in Columbus, Ind. The call letters of the two stations have a certain familiar ring: WINN and WKRP.
