Lonesome Pine Special Fall 1990 Series

The Fall 1990 Lonesome Pine Special will once again span the musical globe to present acts not normally seen in the bars, lounges and theaters of middle America, with the possible exception of the ubiquitous Sam Bush.

On Friday, October 12, Los Kjarkas, Bolivia's most popular band, will open the season. Los Kjarkas play and sing music that reflects their ancient Incan culture, as well as contemporary Bolivian folk movement.

They have a string of albums to their credit and one of their songs, "Llorando Se Fue," was recorded illegally in France and became the international hit "Lambada."

Tickets are $8.50 and $9.50.

On October 26, the Holmes Brothers will bring their brand of blues and soul to the Bomhard. This band has spent twenty years on the road in New York City and became an overnight sensation when their first album was released last March. Tickets are $8.50 and $9.50 for this show.

Sam Bush and Friends will sail in on November 9. This show will be a reprise of their very successful USIA tour of Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia and Turkey. Joining Bush will be singer / songwriter Laurie Lewis, former New Grass Revival bassist John Cowan, and former Hot Rize / Red Knuckles star Nick Forster. This is most assuredly a show not to be missed.

Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16 will see a two-part presentation of Canadian artists.

On Thursday, the Great Western Orchestra from Calgary, Alberta will perform some Canadian and Western Swing, with Laura Vinson, Nathan Tinkham and David Wilkie joining in. The evening will be completed with a performance by La Bottine Souriante from Quebec.

Friday will find the stage taken over by Repercussion, a jazz / salsa / pop / world music group of percussionists, followed by Winnipeg's Finjan, one of the world's leading exponents of Klezmer music.

Mollie O'Brien will return with her band, The Blue Tips on November 30 and on December 7, The Watersons, from Yorkshire, England will close out the Fall series with music from the British Isles.
