Macauley Theatre Changes Management

The Kentucky Center for the Arts will take over the management of the Macauley theater from the Broadway-Brown Partnership.

Ken Clay will be in charge of the aging theater, which has been in decline since the Kentucky Center opened in 1983. Some renovations to the Macauley are already underway and other improvements are in the planning stages, according to Clay.

With 1,450 seats, the Macauley fills an important niche in the local theater scene. The Center has three rooms, the 2,400-seat Whitney Hall, the 600-seat Bomhard and the Martin Experimental Theater, which holds a maximum of 135.

The Broadway-Brown Partnership has yet to formally approve the arrangement. The center will handle scheduling, management and maintenance and "aggressively" seek new bookings, according to Marlow Burt, as reported in the Lousiville Courier-Journal

The Macauley has two "anchor" tenants, the Music Theater Louisville and Theater Workshop of Louisville.
