Village Pub Went to the Dogs

Mark Collie & the Dogs, That Is!

MCA recording artist Mark Collie and his band, The Dogs, were in concert Thursday, October 18, at the Village Pub in Jeffersonville, Ind. His energetic show won the praises of old and new fans, as he sang most of the songs on his latest chart-climbing album Hardin County Line.

The Waynesboro, Tenn. native wrote or co-wrote all the songs on his debut album. He has a real clever way with words. His song, "I've Got Her Right Where She Wants Me," states "I've got her in my heart and I can't get her out of my mind. Now I've got her right where she wants me."

Another clever song, "She Wants Something With A Ring to It," describes the wedding theme -- bells, rings, etc. Most of his songs were written for an "old girlfriend" as he so often said when he introduced each song. However, one of the most touching songs, "Another Old Soldier," was written for his father. Several of his songs were co-written with Marty Stuart: "When the Sun Goes Down I Go Crazy," and "Since I Don't Have You." Collie's voice has a little bit of Elvis in it when he really belts out a song.

His band consists of Mike Cass on steel and dobro, Mike Gordon on drums, Brian Franklin on electric guitars, Hassel Peekal on keyboards, Lance Dary on acoustic guitars, and Jay Hager on electric bass. Mark Collie and the Dogs put on a blue-ribbon show that left the audience begging for more. His encore, a Buddy Holly hit, "Not Fade Away," kept the fans holding on.
