MEMBER NEWS

WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS

The co-op welcomes thirteen new members since the last issue of the Letter. They have received member numbers 331-343, respectively.

Wayne Young, President of the Musicians' Emergency Relief Fund (MERF), and a member of the Shufflin' Granddads, joined the Co-op in time for the semiar. Wayne has been a

professional musician for more years than he cares to admit, singing with many bands familiar to Louisvillians, including Soul, Inc. and Midnight Special. His songwriting is good enough to get one of his tunes named the Official Alabama Rock 'n' Roll song.

We look forward to your involvement in the co-op, Wayne.

Kevin O'Bryan joined during our October 15th meeting and has already started taking advantage of what the co-op is all about. After being introduced to Marie Augustine, he will be taking some guitar and vocal instruction from her.

Just beginning to try his hand at writing, Kevin would welcome a collaborator. He is mainly interested in country music.

Good luck, Kevin, and welcome.

Bill Pickard joins us from Decatur, Georgia. I met Bill at the Great Smokies Song Chase #2 this past summer and was so happy to see him at our recent seminar.

If his name sounds familiar to you, it is probably because you heard it announced numerous times during the awards banquet! (See list of contest winners elsewhere in this issue.)

Bill is a member of the Atlanta Songwriters Assn. and NSAI, and recently shared ASA's Songwriter of the Year award with Louis Brown.

Glad you have joined the co-op, Bill, and thanks for coming "all that way" to join us at the seminar.

Debbie Hupp introduced me to George Cochran during GSSC #2. George lives in Richmond, Kentucky, and has been writing for several years.

I hope some of you had the chance to met George during the seminar; he is a serious writer with what I like to call the right attitude.

Again, welcome, George. Hope you can make our meetings.

• I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but I also met Galen Timmons at GSSC #2. (Besides that, his wife's name is spelled and pronounced the same as mine!)

Galen lives in London Mills, Illinois, near Peoria. He and his wife drove most of Friday night to attend the seminar; in talking with them late Saturday night, they were glad they made the trip.

Again, Galen has an excellent attitude, and is doing some serious writing.

We look forward to seeing you next year if not before, Galen.

Nedra Divine lives here in Louisville and also attended the seminar. I did not have much of a chance to talk with her but I do know she writes folk and country; she would like to find a collaborator.

Having performed solo accompanied with guitar and also with bands, Nedra would like to perform on a showcase; she has also volunteered to help the co-op any way she can.

Thanks for the generous offer, Nedra!

John Limeberry has just moved to Louisville and unfortunately does not have much free time. But he does manage to write pop and country tunes and would welcome a collaborator.

He has had experience singing in a collegiate swing choir for four years; he also plays piano and guitar.

Welcome aboard, John.

Kathy Ann Porter from Evansville, Indiana, joined during this year's seminar.

Kathy says she has not performed professionally, but is an Indiana University School of Music gradulate and has taught choral music for seven years. She is also experienced with electronic music technologly (computer-assisted composition).

She is currently writing country/pop, children's and gospel; she plays keyboard and is looking for a co-writer.

Thanks, Kathy, for graciously offering to help out with vocals/keyboard accompaniment, and PR!

Donald Leffler comes to us with thirty years experience as a professional musician. He started working with the "Monarchs" in 1950. He has since "played with every type of group with exception of classical."

A member of Musicians Union Local 11-637, he is currently working with the group "Prime Time" and will soon hit the twenty year mark teaching guitar, bass and banjo.

Donald's writing includes insturmentals, country, R & B and easy listening.

Though a very busy person, Donald has offered to give the co-op a helping hand whenever he can and possibly do some performing for us. Sounds great, Donald.

Silver Stevens traveled from Carrollton to attend the seminar and join the co-op. Again I did not have time to find out more about her, but I do know she is an active writer and has done several demos in Charlie Wall's studio.

I hope you can make it to our meetings, Silver, and look forward to getting to know you.

Robert Brown took time from the seminar trade show to join the co-op. He works for Far Out Music and was responsible for their exhibitor booth.

Other than that Rob is an excellent musician and has a great sense of humor, I do not know more information to pass along at this time. Look him up at Far Out and have a chance when you get over there.

Look forward to talking with you again, Robert.

• Some of you may have heard Sally Mudd on our most recent showcase. She is orginally from Bardstown now living in Louisville.

Sally is already familiar with several of our members as she has been doing demos for Gardner Barger, Charlie Walls and Judy Johns. She is interested in doing more demo work. (If you heard her at the showcase, you know she can sing!)

Currently a communications major at Bellarmine College, Sally is also thinking about adding songwriting to her vocal talents.

Hope you become a familiar face at the meetings, Sally.

• During the November 3rd awards banquet the LASC offered a year's free membership to the co-op; Toby Stone was the lucky recipient.

Received a nice note from Toby saying he "would love to be a member." He is very appreciative of the complimentary membership and the chance to meet everyone.

Please introduce yourself to me at a meeting real soon, Toby. Welcome!

As new members you may have questions concerning the organization or the music industry in general; please feel free to call me at 502-893-0693 and I will be happy to help in any way I can.

Anyone interested in joining the L.A.S.C. or just wanting more information about the organization is welcome to call me at the above number and I will be glad to answer any questions and/or forward a membership application.

PLEASE NOTE: Again, I would like to encourage new members to include with their completed application an attached page with bio information. Our welcome column is the perfect place to "let youself be known."
